  • Glue it and screw it
Lows: The instructions should show better the placement of the parts that are offset on one side and flush with the other. The screws should be at least 1/4" longer. The supplied screws grip the predrilled holes well, but are too short IMO to not use glue. The drill holder slots could be each at least 1/8" wider. Highs: Nice, clear, smooth, varnished finger-jointed pine is light and sturdy and takes glue well. The predrilled countersunk screw holes are well aligned and hide the screw heads well. Easy, and fun, to assemble. Tips: Start the screws thru the countersunk sides until they protrude the opposite sides1/16" to facilitate alignment with the predrilled holes, then dry fit all connections first. Then apply a thin line of wood glue to one side of all joints, then use a cordless drill with a low clutch setting to seat the screws, then finally hand tighten with a #2 Phillips screwdriver to get some glue squeeze. ... show more

  • Don't trust the premade holes , it's best to drill your own holes.
The price is right but the premade screws is not lined up correctly, be ready to drill your own starter hole.

  • Looks nice, easy to assemble, real wood
This comes as a small box of pre cut wood pieces that you assemble with the included instructions and hardware. I used a 12v impact driver to assemble this and it took less than 10 minutes. It's very straightforward and anyone who owns any power tools will be able to put this together easily. The pieces are all cut well and everything lined up nicely. The holder is all unfinished wood but can be painted if you are looking to match other colors in your shop or garage. The power tool holders at the bottom work with all the tools I tried. I test fit a DeWalt 20v drill, Makita 18v impact driver, Bosch 18v drill, Metabo 20v impact driver, 2 Craftsman 20v drills, a Worx brushless drill, and a Makita 3/8 driver. It's possible some larger or unusually shaped tools don't fit but you most designs with a large rectangular battery and narrower handle should fit. Above the hanging tool storage, there are 2 shelves for battery chargers or hand tools and There are side holders for drill bits and screwdrivers. The screwdriver side worked out well since it holds 11 screwdrivers so I used my 10 piece set along with one multi driver. There is a notch in the top right shelf for a power cord to go through which gives it a cleaner look on the wall. Installation on my wall was easy. I just screwed it into studs behind drywall and it holds in place very well. Overall, it's a really nice looking garage organizer and looks nice mounted above a wood top workbench. I was keeping my power tools in a cabinet which isn't very convenient and now I have quick access to the ones I use most. Even if you just have one or 2 power tools, this unit gives you room to grow as you buy more tools over time. I do think the wood is going to get greasy if you do a lot of automotive work and I'm planning on painting this at some point to help make it easier to wipe it down if it gets dirty. You could make this yourself with a saw and some wood but it's really nice to have it all pre cut and everything fits perfectly together. Wood prices have gone up a lot in the past year, I don't think I'd be saving much money trying to build one of these myself and it definitely wouldn't look as nice. ... show more

  • Better than my other one.
I purchased a large Milwaukee tool box a couple of years ago. It was so large it had a top door that lifted up, and gave you enough room to put in a lot of stuff including 5 drills, impact drivers etc. and their charging stations. The only problem was that they were always falling all over each other making the whole thing a mess. So then onto the garage. I have the same scenario and installed a raised metal rack with is really just a flat surface about 5 inches over the benchtop. The same thing ensued. I have chargers and batteries, and drills all flopping all over one another. Then I got the opportunity to acquire a competitorโ€™s rack. I love the end result, but compared to this one it is frail. First off, the wood on this is thicker. Some of the wood is finger jointed, but I have found glued surfaces, especially finger joints are not lacking in any way when it comes to strength. The other problem with the other unit is that after assembling each screw, I realized they only leave you about a quarter of an inch purchase on the screws. That lead to a few of them being stripped out with little effort. After assembling it, I realized I need to disassemble and redo it, this time with gluing all of the seams. The trick is putting in enough glue to do the job, without overdoing it, and not being able to clear finish the end product. I like the thicker wood on this drill charging station. I also like the nicer grain in the wood as well. After all it is going into a woodworkerโ€™s house. :-) By the way, the drills are supposed to be mounted top side up, and with the handle ready to grab closest to you. So just the head of the drill goes into the upper chamber. They all line up real nicely that way. So, if you want to get organized, and have every drill/driver etc. at the ready, with chargers right there on standby, this is a really nice way to go, you could build one out of scrap, but with the engineering being done on this one, and mass production labor, it hardly pays for you to design, and build one on your own. You could buy this one, and copy it though if you are looking to have more than one. ... show more
