    • A little tricky to put together and hard to spin, but great net overall

My kids were excited to try fishing in our city pond. I'm not much of a fisherman myself, though, and we never had much luck with regular poles. The kids were always disappointed they couldn't catch the little fish that were always swimming by the pier. They wanted to try a fishing net instead, so we gave this a try. The pole is nice and each section screws together. There is also a screw to keep the hoop at the top together. The problem is, as you try to spin the net, the sections and that screw come loose. Luckily you're at no risk of losing the net or anything, but it means if you try to spin the net to catch fish it just rotates around the pole instead of spinning; this was quite frustrating for the kids. I had to make sure the pole sections were pulled very tightly and I had to just tighten the screw every once in a while. The net itself is nice; it has a kind of rubbery feel to it. However, because of this sticky texture, it was very hard to get on around the hoop, especially because of the strange elongated shape of the hoop. It was a pain to work it around, and I don't see myself ever wanting to take it back off. I'm not sure why it isn't round, but as I said, I'm not a fisherman, so maybe there's a reason. The carbon fiber does make it nice and light, and yet it is very strong. We were only pulling small fish out with it, but it could definitely handle something bigger At the end of the day, the kids loved it and caught a ton of minnows. If the sections locked into place when open, it would be an easy 5 stars. ... show more

    • I like the collapsibility but it's not as easy to put together as I hoped.

It seems very sturdy and it's light weight. I haven't used it fully extended yet. I have some concerns once fully extended if it has the strength to be able to lift a heavier fish into the boat. I like the coating on the net itself. The hexagonal mesh holes in the net allow the water to drain quickly through the net. This allows you to bring the fish to and into the boat with ease. The compatibility of the entire net and poles make it a big plus for traveling and storing at the end of the season. I hope once you extend the pole and tighten it into position that it will locked when it's needed. That's why only 4 stars. ... show more
