  • Great stereo, great price.
First I want to say that I am not very knowledgeable about car electronics or cars in general. I decided to purchase this because I had an older "vanilla" stereo system in my dated Chevy HHR (basically it had knobs and no touch screen), and I wanted something with more capabilities (mirror link to phone so I could make hands-free calls, navigation map, ability to stream music from my phone to my stereo system, etc.). This unit allows me to do all these things. I did have to purchase an installation kit for my specific vehicle model (which cost almost as much as the stereo), but since the stereo itself was pretty inexpensive this was not a big deal. I also had to purchase a small microphone to be able to use voice commands with the stereo, and I had to purchase an antenna adaptor plug to connect my car antenna to the stereo. This was definitely not a one-day job! Between work and other things requiring my time and attention, it took me four days to finally get this stereo system installed in my car. But it was worth it. All I have to say is make sure you read all included instructions for installing, and do some research (I found Youtube very helpful) to make sure you are connecting everything to the correct wires and plugs. There were some extra parts and wires in the installation kit and with the stereo itself that I ended up not needing for my particular application - researching online and reading the directions carefully helped me to know which parts I needed and which parts to set aside. Once I sorted out the unnecessary parts, installation became a bit easier. The only negative thing I would say is that using the stereo as a navigation system is not a totally seamless process... when first connecting your phone via USB to the stereo you will be prompted to download the mirror link app (called Hi-Link). It will text you a download link - go to the provided link and download the app. Your phone may balk about it because the app is coming from an untrusted source, but you should ultimately be able to download it. This app allows you to mirror whatever is on your phone screen to the stereo screen. I pulled up Google Maps on my phone and mirrored it to my stereo, but the image did not re-scale to fill the stereo screen - instead it was the same orientation as the cell phone, which made the overall image smaller and more difficult to see while driving. After playing around with it a bit I realized that I needed to enable Auto Rotate on my phone for the Google Maps app to fit properly on the stereo screen. Also, as a couple other people have reported in their reviews, the Hi-Link app is a little buggy and sometimes freezes, so mirroring from the phone to the stereo screen is not always consistent. Other than the buggy mirror link functionality, hands-free calling has worked fine, and the interface on the stereo is pretty intuitive and user friendly. You can easily access different music sources - from streaming music on your phone, to the radio mode, to music stored on a Micro SD card inserted into the slot at the top right of the stereo unit. The SD card can also store photos and videos (for if passengers are in the car and want to watch a video). If you intend to have passengers watch video on the system while the car is in motion, make sure you bypass the parking brake wire (brown wire) by connecting it to the black chassis ground wire - if the wire is not bypassed, then the video mode will not be available if the car is in motion. This is a safety feature of the stereo to prevent people from watching videos while driving. I especially like how you can change the color of the backlight LEDs behind the unit's buttons. The setting I have it on now has the LED lights automatically cycle through all the available colors. All-in-all, this is a decent stereo and I would buy it again - but I will say that if you want to install it yourself, make sure you have plenty of time and patience to make sure you know what you are doing and to install it correctly. ... show more

  • Perfect Solution for My 2010 Subaru Forester's Stereo Issue!
I recently installed the stereo in my 2010 Subaru Forester, and I couldn't be happier! I ruined my OEM stereo and needed a replacement fast. This product was a lifesaver. The installation was a breeze, thanks to the color-coded wiring. Everything matched up , making it a quick and hassle-free setup. The touchscreen is bright and responsive. I drive at night often and its easy to navigate through all the functions. The sound quality is fantastic, and it has improved my driving experience. I love that it has Bluetooth, so I can connect my phone for hands-free calls and music streaming. The built-in GPS with Android compatibility is a nice bonus too. This car stereo has exceeded my expectations. It was an affordable and effective solution to my problem. I recommend it to anyone needing a reliable and easy-to-install car stereo. Five stars! ... show more

  • Good upgrade to older car radio but lack of instructions is frustrating.
The media could not be loaded. I have a 2005 Toyota Corolla. The existing radio with a CD player worked fine but I wanted a newer radio with Bluetooth and a backup camera. The Double Din seemed to fit the bill. I ordered it and it arrived the next day. I used a YouTube video to learn how to disassemble the console. First tip, order a wiring harness adapter for your specific make and model of car, I got mine from the W-mart for $10. The plugs fit my radio and the wiring colors and function matched exactly to the existing wires from my car. In less than half an hour, the radio was hooked up and working. The backup camera was extremely frustrating. Again, there are no instructions included with your radio or camera. I watched four different youtube videos and none really explained the whole process. I had to pick up pieces of info from each one. The second tip, you have to hook up every red wire on the audio video cables to a power source. On the camera end, you have to wire the red wires into the reverse light power supply. On the radio end, I had to wire together the red wire with the purplish wire that comes out of the small harness with the white plastic plug that goes into the radio and tie both of those into the red power supply from the car to the radio. The wire had a label that said: "Reverse". There are two other wires coming out of that harness that weren't needed for my car (one said parking brake and the other had four letters on it). Don't bother trying to use the phone mirror option. The app for this radio, called Hi-Link, has not been updated since 2019 and does not work with current Android operating systems. I downloaded it even though I got a warning saying the app might be dangerous and tried it. It kind of worked for a second then locked up the screen on the radio and appeared to stop and start over and over again on my phone until I uninstalled it. They should not advertise this option with this radio and that app because it simply doesn't work. In spite of the difficulty of installation and the phone mirror not working, I am very happy and a little proud of my new fancy radio. I did need to order a trim piece to fill in the gaps because this radio is slightly smaller than the Toyota radio it replaced. In total, I spent about $100 for the radio, wiring harness, and trim piece. Not too shabby. It's almost like I got a new car for the price of an inexpensive radio. Good luck with installation and don't forget, every solid color red wire needs to be connected to a red wire with power (reverse light, car dash 12 v) and the stupid backup camera wires (red and pink) need to be connected to the power supply of the car as well (at least for a 2005 Toyota Corolla). If you get absolutely frustrated, send me a message and I will try to help. ... show more
