  • Good value for the money
Color: Woodgrain-Brown
Works well. Definitely worth the price. If this is something you’re looking for. It looks nice but it is plastic and not wood. Sound is on par with the wooden models that are much more expensive but to be honest it’s not the most satisfying click in the world on either. But to be fair the digital ones don’t sound that good either! But I’m probably spoiled because I’m used to the click coming from a recording studio monitor But it is cool that it’s analog and you can keep it on the the piano because it looks nice. Also, the 3/4 time is a little bell that rings At the end of the day, I think it does motivate and help you to practice more having the little arm moving back-and-forth and that you have to wind it then something digital. ... show more

  • Good, practical functionality at a very reasonable price.
Why would you buy a mechanical metronome when today you have all kinds of electronic units with their bells and whistle? Here are some reasons: 1) Electronic units have a very quiet output. 2) You would need to amplify them. That requires cabling and some kind of amplifier to move around and plug. 3) Some units are not easy to setup or operate. 4) Battery life can be short. The Donner mechanical metronome has a penetrating and perfectly audible sound that lets you practice along with an acoustic or amplified instrument - for as long as it not at head-banging volume! It can also be set to provide an alternate beat sound every 2,3,4,6 (or none) beats. That lets you set it up as a guide for a whole variety of time signatures like 2/4,3/4, 4/4, 6/8. 9/8. 12/8 etc. The unit is well made and very easy to operate, just wind up, slide the weight to your desired tempo or subdivision (read the bpm along the upper edge of the weight) , select the type of alternate beat sound (or none) and that's it. I bought the black unit, although there are other colors (red and white, I think). It comes with a removable plastic stopper on the bottom of the unit that keeps the pendulum from swinging while transporting the unit. It should be kept in the box to be reused to help protecting the mechanism while transporting the unit. The price for this product is very reasonable. Prices for mechanical metronomes go from obviously cheap, low-quality units costing a few dollars to units costing $150 or more. The Donner mechanical metronome, priced slightly more than cheaper units, provides a very usable product. ... show more

  • Affordable Practice Metronome with great value
The media could not be loaded. I bought this metronome for Guitar practice. To be clear, you can certainly download many apps for your phone or tablet that will work as well. However, for me just a tone is not always enough. When I am really focused on finger exercises and scales, I tend to out pace my metronome on my phone. While that may sound like improvement, it's not. You really need to KEEP TIME. Having a tangible, visual guide to anticipate the beat really helps me. It's really easy to use, and works as advertised. The packaging was nice and it was packed well. It seems durable enough for continued use as well. This is quite loud, and does not sound like your old piano teaches fine wooden metronome. It is a very loud, clicky sound due to that plastic construction. It does feature a bell chime for your 1 beat in several time signatures. Honestly I don't use that feature but it does work well. There were a couple things that I'm not fully satisfied with. When I wound it up, I hit the stop fairly hard and the tab on the key popped right off. I had to put it back on and squeeze it with pliers to tighten it up. After that, it was fine. This was more my fault than the quality of the product. Second, I don't believe all the times are accurate. It is mechanical so the weight is probably not perfectly aligned for BPM as marked. I imagine most are like this. It keeps consistent time, which is most important to me, rather than worrying about a BPM or two. Overall this is a great practice tool, regardless of instrument. You really should always practice with a metronome. It will help you get better! ... show more

  • Useful, practical, easy, good quality
The media could not be loaded. Disclaimer: I am a part of the Donner Vine program, and I have been allowed to try out this product in exchange for my honest review. In general, I have no complaints! My metronome is black and arrived as pictured. It seems to work well, does not require batteries or plugs, as it uses a wind-up key (which I kind-of dig, feeling old school and back-to-basics). Interesting to note: other pictures & reviews reveal a wooden look metronome with some different details than mine, and mine is definitely a plastic exterior. I think they may have updated/changed their product, or those other reviews are with the wrong listing? That said, some of the instructions included in the Caution section of this listing do not seem to apply to my metronome, but to theirs. I followed the directions for my metronome, and there was no mention of the bottom or of removing foam... However, my directions did mention removing a white "stopper", which, mine was black. (see picture) not a big deal. I thought I might want the red version at first, but decided I preferred the look of the Gold on Black numbers for tempo versus the red version's Gold on White, among other reasons. I love that not only does this metronome give you tempo, but options for accent beats (every 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 6th beat, or none at all). See one of the videos I have submitted. Not even sure my fancy childhood metronome did that! So, overall, very happy, though it does look as if the previous models were fancier...(?) ... show more
