  • It works, but it's a pain to use
The display is only readable while the backlight is on and the backlight only turns on when you push a button, shutting off very quickly after that. It always starts up in Celsius mode regardless of what it was set to last time. The unit is very light and the cable running to the probe is somewhat stiff causing the unit to fall over or fall off the counter entirely when you move the probe. The fold out stand that is supposed to keep it upright is kind of a joke; at best the unit will carefully balance in the upright position. Only single letter abbreviations are used to label the buttons. What does "M/M", "S/T", or "S/S" mean? Don't know? Better keep the instructions handy then! Update: The seller (Veneris-us) keeps spamming me with emails because I left honest negative feedback on their lousy product. They've sent me 5 emails so far, all of them asking me to change my review to 5 stars. STAY AWAY FROM THIS AWFUL SELLER! ... show more

  • Not Impressed
The most annoying thing about this device is the very small, hard to toggle, on-off and cook-timer buttons on the back. My average sized fingers can’t get close enough to move these two switches and even when using a tool to move them, they’re very hard to slide on-off. Plus, the setting labels are very hard to read. The device needs to be turned-over, and tilted against a light until the glare reflection will contrast the molded lettering in the housing, before it can be read. The temperature settings are so dumbed-down to cheap graphics that’s it’s actually a tad difficult to achieve a setting other than the pre-ordained click-through list. What I do like about it is the braided metal cable from the device to the probe. Other digital thermometers are much easier to use, but the rubberized coated cable usually fails after few months. This cable is much more durable. I wouldn’t buy this again. Certainly won’t buy this for an older person. ... show more

  • Bad programming
In meat selection, only Well done selectable for: Turkey, chicken, fish & hamburger unlike all others where med-rare to well are options. Programmed temps for meats will burn your food if you trust them. Thermometer programmed 175 deg F for Turkey & chicken but USDA recommended temp for well is 165 deg. And who likes there hamburgers alwsys cooked well done, the only taste option. And fish, USDA recommends 145 but thermometer set at 137. No wonder this is on sale. You can manually program alert tempsby holding s/s for 2 seconds then taping S/T, each tap lowers by 1 deg. I would rather not have to manually program each time vs setting med-rare through well for each.Too much tapping to bring temp down to 130-135 each time from 160. That is 25-30 taps. Are you kidding me? This is going back tomorrow unused. ... show more

  • Finally a thermometer I trust!
I do a LOT of grilling. I've used many meat thermometers and all have been the kind you poke into the meat as you cook. I was skeptical about this one but decided to try on a thick ribeye steak. I used the preprogrammed setting for Medium-Rare and it set a target temperature of 145f. I decided to pull it at about 142 knowing it would continue to warm up off the grill. It sat for only a few minutes and when we cut it in half, it was PERFECT. Needless to say, this is the only one I'll be using from here on out! ... show more

  • It is o.k.
Unit was cheap compared to other thermometers of this type. To be honest, this is the first thermometer of this type that I have used. Perhaps my cons are standard for these types of thermometers? The back light does not stay on long enough. Having to press a button every 8 seconds or so just to read display is annoying. ... show more

  • Great
This is a great thermometer, at a great price. I'm always over cooking chicken because I'm worried about undercooking it. I finally sucked it up and decided to get a digital thermometer, and in my search came upon this one. Now my chicken comes out so much better because I know it's at a safe temper while also being tender and juicy. I've seen it mentioned that the screen is hard to read without the backlight, but I have had no difficulties with that. So far this thermometer has performed as expected. For the price and quality, I'm very happy with this purchase, and would recommend/buy again. ... show more

  • Its easy to use and I feel its very accurate
So this thermometer is easy to use and simple to handle, but it is sort of difficult to see, thats my only main issue with the thermometer. My husband has a really difficult time seeing it. Its very bright backlit when you first turn it on, then it dims way down during use and the reading and you can't see it well. However the price seemed okay for it being one with the long extended cord, thats nice for like a large turkey and big dishes where you may not be able to see the back side of your roast or whatever because then you can just hold this in your hand and you have the reading right there. Its a decent product. I'd recommend if the company were able to change any 1 thing about it, that they make the back light stay on throughout the duration of reading the temp. ours was about 10 years old and old school and I think it was getting faulty if thats possible, I swear it didn't read stuff right any longer. ... show more

  • Good thermometer could have been great
I really like this thermometer. Being able to leave it in your roast or whatever and have it alert you as soon as it's cooked to a specified temperature is great. It has many preset options, or you can do a specific temperature. However, it's a little cumbersome to change the presets. I can forgive that, it is cheap after all. However my biggest gripe is the screen. It only stays on a few seconds, and to get it to light up again you have to press a button, and the buttons all change things. I use the one that changes from C to F. When it's lit up it's very easy to read, but when it's not lit it's near impossible. Other than that I'm very happy with my thermometer so far! ... show more
