Just what we needed to clear our wooded area in our back yard from buckthorn and weeds creeping up. Doing the job we needed it to. Not sure how big of brush it can handle. Clearing the small stuff before attempting the larger brush

    • Strange guard design, the front of the guard extends an inch beyone the blade tip

The blade guard seems to have a strange design, with a prong that extends out front about an inch past the blade tip. When swinging the tool side to side to cut brush, the front of the guard catches on uncut brush that the blade can't reach. As others have noted, the blade ships dull. The manual says that it should *not* be sharpened. When cutting through blackberry vines, the new growth well above ground level wants to flex out of the way instead of being cut. The stiffer vines closer to the ground cut better. Horizontal vines close to the ground are difficult to cut because they are too parallel to the blade, which tends to skim over them unless the tool is tilted a lot. This last problem is probably generic to this blade style. I've seen info about mulching blades with turned-down tips that might work better. On the positive side, this tool is pleasantly quiet when used with the DCST972X1 String Trimmer power head. I haven't used it enough yet to comment on battery run time. ... show more

Works as well as any of these blunt metal brush cutters. You have to move solidly into the brush with it so that it will crash through rather than just being pushed aside, but it works for even flimsy stuff once you get the hang of it. I wish the angle were adjustable, and I think it's a bit expensive for what it is, but it's cleared a lot of area for me. ... show more

The angle of the cutter head is too low to use comfortably. It seems as someone under 5 feet designed this.
