I've now installed four of these (Satellite, Xbox, Cable box and sound bar (sonos)(two are pictured, one behind the satellite upper left and one in the closet behind the wall) I felt compelled to write a review because so many other reviews talked about how flimsy or breakable these are. I've found that they work perfect, just a couple of suggestion. Do Not use a drill to tighten up the tiny screws. This should go without saying, but the hardware needs to be small (Less bulky) to keep the box discreet. Screw it in by hand, it's only a few turns. Next, make sure the wings are out behind the drywall prior to screwing them back in. Again, this should go without saying, but after reading the comments, maybe not. Simply hold the wing and unscrew to get the half inch you need. I bought three of these for $20 a piece on another site I use, then found them on Amazon for $7. Figured they couldn't be the same after reading the reviews, but nope, when it arrived, exact same piece, same company, everything. I received a cut-out template with the expensive one, nice to have, not worth paying three times the price....Anyway, great product, works perfect. ... show more

I have run many cables behind walls over the years for flat screens, surround sound, computers, etc. I have used various types of these wall plates in the past, but I will use these from now on now that I've tried them. The quality of the plate is better (thicker plastic) than I expected for the price, and it just doesn't get much easier to install. Other brands require two pieces, a frame and a cover. This unit is all in one and installs in minutes. There is a template in the box for the size of the square that you need to cut in the drywall. Find your hollow channel, trace the template and cut. When you tighten the screws, it opens up two wings that grab the drywall from behind and hold it securely to the wall. No anchors required. You can also install them diagonally or horizontally, depending on your space and direction you are running your cables. They look very professional and can be painted if you need to. This model also has a large opening that will accept multiple cables. I have now installed 8 of them in a recording studio to run cables around the room and they look and work great. Very pleased. An extremely affordable way to run low voltage cables (RCA, HDMI, optical audio). Really easy to install. Comes with a paper template you can trace to cut out. I recommend putting a small screw in the middle of the area being removed to function as a handle so you can pull it out easily after cutting (think like a jack-o-lantern's stem). You may want to have a cable fishing line or something you can easily pull cables from one end to the other with. I used a measuring tape. Run the measuring tape so it goes in from the bottom then comes out the top. Tape the cables to the measuring tape and pull them through. If you have insulation behind the wall, you may want to get some flex tubing (taping each end to one of the attachments, otherwise anything you run with catch the insulation and shred it up. It also makes running new wires later easier. It was so easy to install I am seriously considering buying more for other spots in the house. ... show more

    • No Power Tools: The Wings Break

I have 3 of these functional in my home and will be adding 4 more. Unlike the recessed power receptacle version that has metal wings for anchoring in the sheetrock, this has plastic wings. ANY use of power tools where you cannot feel the tension on the wing is not advised. Even at slow speeds you will break these clips. Use a small screwdriver and tighten until there is enough tension to hold in place and no more. If installing on a wall with insulation, I advise pulling a out a shallow layer to prevent spring-back that would put excessive tension on the wings. You can fill with sealing foam to compensate if desired, but only after your cables are relatively fixed and non-changing. You might also consider buying more than one unit in case you break the first one getting to know the product. Also, pull your cables before putting this in place. Too much handling will break it. Remember that you can orient it any way you like to make running the cables optimal. It will fit cables with fairly large heads, but anything bigger than a typical 3-prong AC head might get a little awkward. ... show more
