  • Just What I Was Looking For
This is exactly what I needed to connect my new Blu-ray player to my old sound system, however you do need a good coaxial cable to go from coax out on the player to the coax input on this unit. To me this would be a bargain at twice the price just to be able to have my old sound system back again.

  • It seems to work
I have a weird use case. I have a HD projector and an 85" LCD TV. To sync the images I cast to a streaming box at the projector, then send the image and sound out to my LCD TV with a 50' fiber optic HDMI cable, then I send the audio from the TV through a 100' Toslink optical cable to this converter box, then in to a mixer board and out through XLR cables to my left and right powered speakers. So far it's working, and I don't have lip-sync issues. It's my attempt at budget pro-sound. I probably need to work on making the setup more redundant with spares so that it can recover from a problem during a show with minimal disturbance. I think I have covered the most likely failure modes but a bad converter box could spoil the sound for our "big game" party. So fingers crossed that it keeps working. As far as the product goes, it seems fine. I needed an 1/8" TRS to dual RCA cable to get the stereo audio in to my mixer board. The only issue is the box is light and my Toslink and 1/8" TRS to dual RCA cables are stiff so the box kind of floats around where the cables want it to be. I guess I should work on cable management and mount the box somehow but that's a project for later. For the price it seems great and will be great if it is reliable but the form factor and light weight make me delete a star because it goes where it wants to go more than where I want it. If that's a concern for people they should know it. ... show more

  • The most important thing to know before buying
This thing states in product info that the package contents are the converter, optical cable and usb wire for power supply and a 5 Volt 1 amp power supply. First one came with no power supply so i sent it back they send another SAME. In the product info it states power supply is included, but on the physical box on the outside in tiny print is says no power supply included IT IS NOT! One star for false advertising. UPDATE 1/22/24 Had it going from optical output of Vizio tv to rca jacks terminating into a 3.5 m mini phone jack connected to PC sub/sat speakers. Worked for a couple days then a loud fluttering sound came out of the speakers ,tried different power supply same result. ... show more

  • Connected my bluetooth headphones to my new TV.
I used this to link my old bluetooth headphones with RCA connectors to my new TV which only had an Optical Digital Audio Out connection. The connection was easy and the sound is great. (There is no volume control on the unit itself, the headphones have the volume control.)

  • Optical to stereo TV Adaptor
I would give this item a 4.5 star rating considering it's price point and sturdy build quality. Although there is a bit of low level noise in the audio signal (particularly on the RCA ports), it does not present as a real distraction when watching movies and TV shows. It provides louder playback than the DONGJIAN HDMI ARC capable DAC but did not as clean a signal after D/A conversion. Another drawback is that it includes a "C" to "A" USB power cable but no power adaptor. Given the DONGJIAN's broader flexibility and cleaner signal, this unit is being returned. ... show more
