Description

CURT cargo carriers are a simple yet effective solution for maximizing the storage area of your vehicle. The advantage of a hitch-mounted cargo carrier is that it can be mounted on the rear or front end of the vehicle as long as the vehicle is properly equipped with the right receiver hitch. Mounting a cargo carrier in the front opens up the rear receiver hitch for towing a trailer or adding a second carrier or bike rack if needed. The hitch-mounted design also makes installation quick and easy. CURT basket cargo carriers feature a strong bolt- together design and are made with heavy-duty carbide steel and a tubular construction for increased strength. One of the advantages of the basket style is its 6" high sides. These provide extra security and peace of mind during travel. I am pleased with this little basket. I put it on my '79 Jeep CJ-5. The tube was really long and stuck out too far, causing excess downward leverage on my weak bumper (Jeeps have weak bumpers), so I cut off the hitch tube with a metal saw and drilled out a new hole, to shorten it. The basket itself is all metal. Mostly lighter weight stuff so you can haul rocks around, but stuff like coolers, suitcases, toolboxes, etc. ride just fine in it. The rail and open mesh floor provide plenty of points to use bungee and ratchet straps to secure the cargo. Due to my weak bumper issue, if I am hauling something heavy like over 150 lbs (most recently a roll of metal fencing), I further support it with a ratchet strap up to the spare tire to give it some boost - the basket frame can handle the weight, but I don't want to bend my bumper downward. Overall, this is a good product - solid metal, easy to assemble and gets the job done, and for a competitive price based on the shopping around I did before I bought it. Held up great on a 2000 mile road trip! Only knock is what I was expecting anyway, it has lower clearance while pulling into an elevated driveway and the base scraped against the pavement a few times! But it saved me from having to install roof rails on my car or shell out money on an expensive bare roof rack, so it served me just right while traveling with dogs! Pretty well built and no complaints so far! I bought a hitch tightener to reduce rattling or play so definitely invest in that if you’re planning on this, as I still had some play before I secured it with a hitch tightener and lock! Folds up when you want to go around without luggage. I put in some reflecting strips at the back as well but it did not block my tail lights or tags even after it had a cargo bag. After use very easy to take off fold the shaft and stack up against the wall in my garage! Definitely recommend and will be using again next month on a long road trip! ... show more

Quick ship and easy to assembly. At first we were a little apprehensive because it seemed a somewhat wiggly. As soon as we filled it, it seemed to sturdy itself. We drove 11 hours from NC to FL and we barely remembered it was there. It's spacious but low enough to ground that it did not cover our taillights and we were able to open our lift gate on Town and Country minivan. After we emptied it upon arrival, we tilted it up to get it out of the way. We had purchased a basket carrier 10 years ago and this one is far superior. We would highly recommend this. I love my fold up cargo carrier basket. It's a little difficult to handle by myself putting it on & taking it off when I need it, but that's ok. I would prefer it to be sturdy & heavy duty enough. Folding it up & down isn't difficult though. I even bought a locking pin to secure it to my SUV, to prevent theft. I bought this product for my Nissan Rogue 2016 about 4 months ago. Last month I went on a road trip. I have a 90 lb dog so I decided to buy this carrier for our all stuff to carry and let dog enjoy in the back side of our SUV. On the day off, I installed this carrier and I packed and loaded about little over 100 lb. I was so excited to go on the trip with this carrier and I rolled my wheel down the driveway and immediately I heard a loud noise which was carrier touching down the driveway. It was so scary but my driveway has little more slope then my neighbors so I thought it will be ok. Then I went to fill up the gas. At Gas station I filled the gas and I exited the Gas station then I immediately heard another bump of the carrier touching the ground. So this time I decided this will be a terrible idea to take this carrier on my trip. So I turned-back home and I removed carrier and I went without the carrier. Later I contacted the seller they declined the return. If even I could have 4'' rise Shank might I can use it for next trip but I am not sure. It finally got to me on the following Wed...thank goodness because I was heading out on vacation that Thursday...i was surprised about the shipping since I have Prime but I won't harp on it since it came before I left. First off. Don't forget to order a locking pin when you order this. It's separate. It's very sturdy and held up for our road trip from Texas to upstate New York. We carried our ice chest on it.
