This was a huge amount of work for my husband to assemble, but he did comment that the instructions included were really thorough and excellent compared to most assembly instructions. He had a few criticisms about the piece; the fact that it’s a veneer over chipboard, and that the feet were hard to place without the edging (which is supposed to be tucked under the bottom) were somewhat exposed. But he did love how the cabinet doors went in with ease and hang perfectly straight. My criticism is only that it seems they had room to make much larger drawers and that they don’t open fully. I do absolutely love the overall looks of this piece of furniture. We left the paper towel holder off, which also didn’t look like it could keep paper towels in because the rod was so short, but we didn’t need it anyway. Instead, we mounted the shelf/towel holder on the other side. They aren’t really interchangeable unless you just want to mount the shelf. He’d have had to drill holes if we’d wanted the paper towel holder on the opposite side, so that could be a real negative for someone who would like to do that. The holes on the other side are fairly well hidden for us because they’re facing a kitchen cabinet. It would be nice if they’d provided matching pegs to cover the holes if you don’t want to use these attachments. But for our purposes, the cabinet is wonderful, and the granite top was perfect, heavy duty and gorgeous. It matches quite well with our black countertops and appliances. And even though it’s pressboard with a veneer, it truly looks like solid wood. I love this cabinet! ... show more

    • Took a Chance - Pleasantly Surprised!

I was very impressed with the quality of this island. It took almost 3 hours to put it together...time consuming, but not too difficult. There are a lot of pieces, but all the wood pieces were well marked and all the hardware was organized and numbered to coincide with the instructions in the manual. They even included some extra screws, cams locks and spring pins in case something was missing. The instructions were fairly easy to follow, although it did take two of us to complete the job. The granite top came in a wood crate that was screwed together to keep it intact. It was inside of a box, wrapped in plastic and cushioned with Styrofoam. The wood and the granite are beautiful and we are very pleased with the finished product. In my opinion, the island is very consistent with the advertised photo. I also liked having the option of putting on the casters OR the round wooden base support pieces (we chose the latter). We have the island against a wall in our kitchen and use it as a microwave stand and extra storage cabinet. It works perfectly. I was worried about spending hundreds of dollars and taking a chance on a product that you have to put together piece by piece, but for us it turned out okay. We were pleasantly surprised with the results. If you are willing to spend a little time to put it together, I would highly recommend this product. ... show more

My wife and I have a small kitchen area and we just wanted something that would give us just a little more much needed counter space and some additional storage space. This product easily satisfies these 2 conditions and at the same times adds much beauty to the kitchen. Our home is only a 1600 square foot home and again we felt we just needed something a little additional. As far as the assembly goes, I did this after having a couple of surgeries slowly, but very carefully. The booklet that comes with all the parts neatly packed is excellent with pictures of exactly how to assemble everything. I recommend forget how fast you can do something and just go about it the right way with patience and knowing in the long run, you will have exactly what you ordered. Again, I had in my frame of mind, to take my time and do it right especially after a few major surgeries. Yes, I may have spent an additional hour or so longer than other reviews here due to breaks, etc. but I am very, very pleased as so is my wife with this product. No qualms whatsoever folks.. NONE. YOU WILL ENJOY YOUR NEW PIECE OF FURNITURE SOON.. One thing I should of mentioned is probably it would be better if you had a good Allen wrench instead of the one provided for recessed areas.     • Assemble Yourself No Surpises

I received the kitchen island and assembled it today. The first thing I will note is that this is heavy. After bringing it inside my apartment I felt guilty about UPS having to carry it up to my second-floor apartment. It came in three packages but the bulk of the unit is one box. One really heavy box. Second, be prepared for lots and lots of packing material. My kitchen floor looked like it had snowed inside when I was done. I filled two garbage bags with styrofoam bits and wrapping used on every item. Assembly is not complicated but there is a lot put together. Spent several hours on it but I took lots of breaks. All of the necessary parts were present along with the various types of screws and connectors. The unit includes a hex wrench but I recommend using hex screw driver to save you some time and it helps with accessing some of the recessed holes. On par with my furniture assembly skills, I installed one of the accessory shelves upside down. It was straight forward to correct but I was sure glad I had that hex wrench screw driver. You have the option to installs wheels or circular wooden feet. With the unit completely assembled I was happy that I chose the wheel option. After everything was assembled I used it right away as extra counter top space for food preparation and I was happy with my purchase. The storage capacity is okay but the two side cabinets are somewhat narrow. Having two cabinets rather than three would have provided more space for each cabinet. I am happy to recommend this kitchen island but you should be well rested beforehand and drink plenty of fluids during assembly.
