  • Extremely smooth - Certainy add this to your printer
Size: Digital Spool Holder
I'm evaluating this on what it does instead of what I thought it might do (see the end of this for what I thought it would do and what improvements I think Creality should make). This is an extremely good upgrade to your printer. The roller is so smooth, in fact, too much at times as if you have a slight imbalance in your spool, it will permit the spool to roll (or pull) depending up on the location of the imbalance. It weighs the spool (I can only assume it weighs properly because I have no way to compare it). The thing to know is it weighs the entire spool and not just the filament. In order for you to know the filament weight, you'll need to know the weight of the empty spool, which can be a hindrance if you're using a brand you've never used before. That is, there is a big difference between HatchBox and Overture empty spool weights. We cannot expect Creality to solve for this considering the wide variety of spool sizes and materials. I suspect one way to do it on a new spool is to assume you have exactly 1KG (or whatever) of filament and whatever the initial weight is, you can calculate the difference by subtracting 1KG (or whatever) from the initial weight. The display stays on only a brief period of time. That is, it doesn't continuously display the weight. It does this to save battery. Though this makes sense, don't think you can just walk up and know the weight during a print. Also, to weigh it, you have to remove the spool, turn it on, then put the spool back on. This isn't really ideal for when you're making consecutive prints from the same spool and you want to know if you have enough filament left to complete a print. It is a hindrance, but not a fault. I don't think Creality designed it for continuous weight. It would be good if they added this as an option, but clearly, if the rechargeable battery goes dead, it might be a while before you can weigh again. I definitely recommend this. ... show more

  • Sturdy, but no "flow control"!
Size: Multi-Kilogram Spool Holder
I really liked the looks of this spool holder, it had a more commercial polished look where most 5KG spool holders look like they were designed in a DIY shop. The spool holder is very sturdy and the roller is strong and smooth. However, the bearings in the roller are perhaps too good and there is absolutely no resistance on the spool. I also have yet to find a perfectly balanced 5kg spool of filament. So what typically happens is at some point there is a heavy side to the spool that makes its way to the top and then takes off with great momentum. This causes the spool to unravel a good 4-5 full turns before slowing down. Since there is no type of filament guide, the filament quickly escapes past the sides of the spool and as the 3D printer continues to print the filament gets all wrapped around the spool holder axel until it jams up. Ultimately I had to rig up some rubber bands and paper around the axel to give it a little resistance. It works great now, but I now have one of this DIY looks I was trying to avoid. Also, for the price and what you get, you shouldn't have to "rig it" to make it work. No one obviously tested this in the real world. ... show more

  • Better than original
Size: 1 KG Spool Holder
Has a metal mounting bracket that mounts it with T nuts. The ball bearings are very smooth allowing the filament to feed very smoothly.

  • Wish it did more
Size: Digital Spool Holder
A for effort, but it's basically pointless as others have stated. The best thing about it is it is a larger spool, so you no longer have the pull of the filament. It rotates much smoother for better feeding. It only stays lit for about 20 seconds. So you need to write down the spool weight and then check it again after a print to calculate usage. It's also good for making sure you have enough filament to do the print. But if you're looking for something that stays on and counts down filament use, this isn't for you. ... show more

  • Can't recommend this product
Size: Digital Spool Holder
I tried and tried to like this but there's just too many issues. This doesn't connect to the printer. It won't save the zero. It won't stay on even if plugged in. If u want to weigh your filament you have to turn it on, fumble with it to get it to zero out. Take your filament off, put an empty roll on (hope you have an empty roll that's the same weight as the one u have) zero it out your roll back on and then it's gonna shut off 20 seconds later and completely forget the zero you already had in there. I wouldn't bother with this if your looking into a smart filament measurement option because this product is obviously not very smart. ... show more

  • Mostly useless
Size: Digital Spool Holder
The scale does weigh the filament but it doesn't store the settings and turns off after about 20 seconds, so after every build you need to turn it back on rezero it with an empty spool then put your spool on for an accurate weight, so yes it gives you the weight but in the most annoying way possible. ... show more

  • Not persistent, goes to sleep after about 20 seconds and loses its zero
Size: Digital Spool Holder
It is a great concept poorly executed. After zeroing and then putting on a spool, the scale goes to sleep and immediately loses its zero. This misses the point as I want to check usage as the machine is running. You can get a stand along scale for a fraction of the cost if you are just going to weight the spool before mounting. It should keep its zero even if only while the USB C charging cable is connected. ... show more

  • So good it's bad.
Size: Multi-Kilogram Spool Holder
When I first started putting this together the arm was not the correct drilled hole. I needed to drill out the mounting point to fit the screws to be able to mount it to the lower bracket. Now, I say it works so well it's bad. It does spin very freely with my 5kg spool. It spins so freely that when I'm printing fast with a .8 nozel, it doesn't stop spinning and unwinds the filament when the extruder retracts or slows for the outer shell! ... show more
