Plant arrived safely it's was well packed, was worried because of the cold 🥶 but it seems to be fine ..it is a beautiful large plant. I will buy again from this seller and highly recommend them.

This plant is beautiful and strong and looks great in the living room. It arrived well wrapped and not defects in January 2025. I always wanted a whale fin as a statement piece.

    • Don't order in winter
I've purchased a plant from Costa Farms before (a ZZ) and it is still in great health & thriving. This order, however, I wasn't so lucky. I purchased a Whale Fin & Ponytail Palm on Nov. 20th. They were delivered on December 2nd. When I unboxed them, they both looked to be in decent shape – vibrant green, still moist soil, etc. I didn't need to water them at all, so instead I placed them in my east-facing windows & let them get settled. Now, just two weeks later, neither are in good health. The Whale Fin is fading to a brown green and almost peeling. The ponytail palm is also a brown green and losing fronds. I don't know where these ship from and how they are handled, but I would guess this is because of the winter temperatures this time of year. I wish there had been a warning on the Amazon shop site or the Costa Farm site about ordering during the winter. I would have rather waited until temperatures warmed up in the spring to add these two to my collection. ... show more

I avoid buying plants via mail since you can't see their condition/possibility of pests and transit is stressful and dangerous for the plants, but the Whale Fin is hard to find and expensive due to being slow-growing. I've purchased many Costa Farms plants from Home Depot and have always been pleasantly surprised with their health, price, and longevity so took a risk. This arrived in perfect condition (not even dried out from transit) and has THREE mature leaves - the mother leaf is a full 15"+ from the soil. With the decorative pot this is a GREAT deal for a mature Whale Fin. It appears healthy and with no visible soil issues. I'll likely leave it be until next spring to repot out of the nursery pot liner and water/fertilize minimally until then - despite their reputation for being "easy," I realize they are also susceptible to stress/overwatering etc..., and that pests are a possibility no matter how reputable the seller, so I hope this guy survives to the next growing season, but given its current condition, won't hold it against Costa if it doesn't. ... show more

I have bought quite a few plants from Costa Farms, and they have some of the best plants and packing. The Whale Fin was in great shape, not a single sign of damage during shipping. It is winter in the midwest, and they had a heat pack in the box to keep the plant warm during transit. I also didn't expect the plant stand, as the ad said it didn't come with the pot.
