This is the first time I've ever tried growing Bonsai's from seed. There are plenty of seeds, so a person can keep trying and trying, which is what I did. They initially died, so I tried again. Some were getting where they were putting out more and more leaves. Yahoo! But, then they would also die. I contacted the company and they sent me more seeds. More seeds than in the initial purchase AND with types not included!! This is so fantastic! I'm sure I'm going to end up giving Bonsai trees to friends! ... show more

    • A Growing Sense of Inadequacy
I bought this bonsai tree growing kit thinking it would be a great way to relax and connect with nature. What I got was a tiny tree that judges me constantly. 'You call that watering? I'm parched over here!' 'Your pruning skills are almost as bad as your haircut.' 'Why did you even bother with the decorative rocks? I'm a tree, not a cat.' Despite the tiny tree's sassiness, I've grown quite fond of it. It's like having a tiny, leafy roommate who complains about everything I do. The kit came with everything I needed, including seeds, soil, and a pot that's just the right size for my tree's ego. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, even for a plant novice like me. Overall, I'd highly recommend this bonsai tree growing kit to anyone who wants to experience the joy of being bossed around by a tiny plant. Five stars! ... show more

    • Plan ahead when you are ready to start
I had been waiting for a free afternoon to use this kit to plant my Jacaranda bonsai. Unfortunately, I didn't read the booklet until I was ready to get started and step one was to scarify (rough up) the seeds and soak them for 24 hours. Delayed gratification turned up a notch. I was not successful with trying to scarify with a knife tip (just crushed the seeds) and didn't have sandpaper available, so I gave up and just soaked the rest without further intervention. I'll plant tomorrow. I did prep the soil which was fun to expand and there was more than enough for the plastic pot. I have another small pot I will put the rest in and I think I've got about 8 seeds soaking so I'll double my chances. THe directions walk you through the process up to sprouting a seedling and then you're kind of on your own. I'd have loved at least a little bit of info on how to trim and care for it as it grows. The booklet also refers repeatedly to a burlap pot, when this kit comes with a plastic one but it wasn't hard to figure what they meant even though the tools come in a burlap bag and for a minute I thought they wanted me to use that. The tools are sturdy and cute and will come in handy with other planting projects for my house plants. There are plenty of extra seeds, so if at first.....try try again. ... show more

I’ve always wanted to try growing a bonsai tree. This one was affordable and looks so cute. It was so easy to plant and I can’t wait to see how well it’s sprouts. The whole little kit you get is perfect for treating yourself of for gift giving.

It was misleading-ad showed a live tree plus seeds, soil and instructions to grow more. There was no live tree and the seeds never sprouted.
