My 55 gallon tank always had a green tinge to the water no matter what I did or what I tried. I installed this and three days later my tank is crystal clear. I run it twenty four hours a day. See no reason to shut it off. Well worth the cost.

The good: I bought this because it seemed like a good investment and I’ve been struggling with green water despite a lot of work. So I installed this in my 10gal tank. Day 1 vs Day 2 in pictures(less than 24hrs). I also did use a water polisher in cadence and the results are amazing. The BAD: I bought the one rated for 10-40 gal and really it’s meant for a 40. The regulator -does not work- I ended up moving all my fish to another tank while the pump cleans this one. When I first turned it on, the fish freaked right out and I lost two shrimp. The current and suction is too much for a 10 gallon tank, or at least for my little guys. While I still think it’s a good investment to have a UV filter. I might consider a different UV set up in the future. ... show more

I bought a JUB-01 in Jan 2024. Installed it in a 70 gal turtle/fish aquarium on my light timer so it only ran about 10 hours per day. It worked great when it was first installed and cleared up the cloudy water in a couple of days. I recently noticed the water getting cloudy again and saw the light was not blue at the bottom. I pulled the filter and when I opened it up the inner quartz tube around the bulb was totally filled with water. The bulb was corroded and shorted out. I am a Plastics Engineer and started looking at the O ring interface to see if silicone grease or a thicker O ring might help fix the issue. However I noticed that it looks like the factory applied a layer of "glue" inside the molded cylinder where the O ring on the quartz tube is supposed to compress and seal. It might have worked, but was poorly executed. It was not smooth and has ripples in the glue surface so the O ring cannot compress evenly and seal. This was not normal for this type of design and after 20 years of working with Chinese suppliers sourcing plastic parts for major US companies, I am guessing the molding diameter was out of specification. To save a few bucks, rather than scrapping the parts, they tried to rework them using a "glue" wiped inside the plastic cylider to decrease the inner diameter by 0.5mm or so and better compress the O ring. However there are large ripples in the hard glue surface so it is not even and there is no way for it to make a good/even compression of the O ring around the entire circumference. Maybe it was smooth enough to work sometimes, but If you get one of these and see a "glue" build up where the quartz tube/ O ring is supposed to seal I do not recommend using it. Just send it back. Looking at reviews from late 2023 to early 2024 a lot of units reported leaking. I'll bet they all have this "glue" rework inside of them. They need to fix the molding process or modify the molding tool so it has the correct dimensions for the O ring to seal without adding crap to the inner sealing surface as a band-aid. ... show more

I ordered this for a 36 gallon tank. The water turned green so we replaced the water and it was green again in a few days. The pet store recommended a UV filter, so I ordered this one. It's quiet and does the job very well. The water turned clear again and stayed clear. I didn't replace the filter until I stayed seeing algae again. Replacing the filter cleared the water right up. I didn't rate the longevity, as I've just had it for few weeks, but so far, so good. ... show more

Bought this (May 2024) for my daughter's 20 gallon tank as we had a phytoplankton apocalypse going on in her tank. This thing worked amazing for the seven days we left it on to fully kill everything off. We turned it on every now and again per the instructions. Come August and we turn it on for it's usual use to keep everything in check. It starts making a horrible sound and we shut it off. The seal is somehow broken, water in the bulb area, and my daughter just thankful her fish and herself aren't fried. IT definitely worked to kill the phytoplankton, but I would not suggest leaving it in the tank as something clearly went wrong with it. We cannot even change out the bulb because the pump is that damaged that water will just come in. UPDATE: Contacted the seller and they sent me a new one. Hoping this one has no issues! :) ... show more
