First off, this thing pulls really well. The sheave block doubles the pulling power, and of course halves the pulling speed in the same process. It is easy to use with fairly smooth action. Everything works well until you try to reverse the pawl spring holder for unwinding. The spring lever is very thin and almost sharp. Be SURE to wear gloves when you reverse the spring. You can easily cut your thumb trying to press on this lever. I have included a picture of the offending part. This part needs to be beefed up to make it easy to use without cutting yourself. ... show more

I am using this to move some rather large items on wheels in my shop that has a slight slope. Overall this is a good pull. The cable feels strong, and it is well connected. The only thing that could be better is some of the edges could be deburred a little better to make it less a sharps risk.

I having cutting a lot of trees down on my property. I use come alongs to help them fall in the directions that I prefer. I have a few come alongs so I think that I have a pretty good evaluation on them. This one has heavy duty hooks which turn freely. Has a handle that has the plastic is attached to it so it does not slide off which is an awesome feature. It is heavy and not lightweight. It does not twist up when ratcheting. It is easy to release which makes it very safe. Ratcheting system works fine . It is definitely worth spending a couple extra dollars and getting this then it is getting a super cheap come along because when using these things they can be dangerous. ... show more

    • VERY UNSAFE!!!
Totally unsafe! They used threaded bolts at all stress points. There should be solid steel pins connecting all hooks, cables, pulleys and swivel areas. Looking at the instruction pictures it shows the use of solid steel pins. My unit had all threaded bolts installed. I am a machinist so, i made new solid steel pins for all the high stress points. I have in old come along from the early 1970s and it has solid steel pins in all the high stress areas. If I had used the new come along to lift 1000 lbs. the bolt at the hooks would have fail. Bolts are designed for pulling not stress against the thread. As threads are cut you're removing material which lessen the cross sectional area or thickness there for weaken the bolt. This unit is rated at 4400 lbs. very unsafe!!! ... show more

All of the connectors/fasteners are tight. It smelled well oiled. Everything works smoothly. It seems like a quality build.

One caveat here, I've only done a couple of test pull with this. I haven't really had a use to put it through some tough pulls but it worked great for the test run I did, just hooked it to my jeep and dragged a few things around the shop to make sure it worked.
