Very pleased with this winch. The heavy duty construction was somewhat better than I expected. It appears to be very well made. All of the functions are easy and smooth which makes it very easy to use. So far, I have not used it with a load approaching its maximum, but it should easily be able to handle the advertised one ton. I see no reason to give this product anything but a five star rating. For a 1T winch, this was about as expected. The crank is double sided and the teeth are nicely thick while the hooks are smooth and burless. The frame is on par with the box store stuff and easily maintained. The springs are a bit on the thin side, but easily manipulated for cranking or release. All the functions are easily preformed while wearing heavy gloves, as well. While all that is great, I cannot justify the $29 that this is listed at. While I mention the box store stuff, I mean the ones hanging there that have been played with, possibly returned, and left while a fresh one was taken. Nothing on this winch was square. Bolts were assembled to 'Just enough' while frame ends were manually bent to take the hook assembly parts. The box stores sell these at about $20-25 and I feel that this is overpriced for what I have in my hand. ... show more

As an inexpensive come along this one works, but I wouldn't push its weight limit. First off, you'll want to wear gloves when you're using it, as it's primarily stamped/cut metal and has edges that are sharper than you want considering you'll working with it under load. Secondly, most of the bolts are grade 8.8, which are fine for this weight capacity, though the main bolt on the cable wheel is grade 4.4 (granted, its a larger bolt and shear strength depends on not just grade, but also size, but another 8.8 bolt would've probably been better here). The pin on the fixed hook is an unknown grade. Some of parts aren't manufactured/installed symmetrically, most noticeably, both the bar for the dual gear catch hooks and the cable wrap wheel are significantly canted to one side of the tool. Finally, I'm not convinced on the load capacity of the cable ferrule. As someone that does cable ferrule/swaging work I'd be hard pressed to put 2000 pounds on that connection. I wish I had a "before" photo, as I tested this to a fraction of its load capacity and it looks the cable may have partially pulled through the ferrule. Granted, that one's an easy fix with a couple additional ferrules or a bolted cable tie. ... show more
