  • Held up for two nights over extremely hot fires.
Item Package Quantity: 1
I was worried based on other reviews whether or not this would hold up. Well, it did on my two night camping trip. Don't expect to get this item back into the original box once you've pulled it out. I wish they'd provide a bag to slip all the parts in after use. My biggest challenge with this product was adjusting the height of the grill while it's over the fire. This can be challenging, difficult and even impossible if the fire is too hot. Maybe if you're a taller person it would be easier. I'm only 5'2" and was camping with my Little from the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. I wanted to lower the grill as it was taking too long to cook the food and we were getting pretty hungry that first night, but once the fire was on, I couldn't safely lower the grill. We still managed to make this work two nights in a row for cooking our food that was pre-prepped in foil containers. Definitely make sure this is in place BEFORE you start the fire. Otherwise it is difficult to secure over the fire. With a bag, and a better way to adjust the grill while over the hot fire, this would definitely be a 5 star product. ... show more

  • One of the best investments for camping...
Item Package Quantity: 1
The media could not be loaded. We bought this trip pod 4 years ago for a camping trip we had coming up. It was one of the best investments we made for camping. It's lightweight for packing. The legs are very adjustable. The chain that moves the up and down is super easy to adjust. Breaks down easily for storage. We are just very careful not to leave it outside in the weather for more than a day or 2 at a time. Well worth the money. ... show more

  • Nice camping item with one disappointment
Item Package Quantity: 1
I bought one of these for myself after having used a similar one on a camping trip that someone else brought along. It's easy to setup and much nicer than trying to find rocks to support a regular grill or deal with campground fire rings. For cooking over a fire source, the greatest advantage is being able to simply raise or lower the cooking grate for desired amount of heat. Because the grill is hanging you should add a something to use as a 'grabber' to your cooking kit to hold steady the grill while working with food over the fire. My one disappointment upon receiving this particular model was that the shock cords that keep the segments of each tripod leg together once assembled are just nylon cord. The one I used previously utilized a small spring-loaded chain through the legs for tension. And because the legs will be exposed to high heat, the nylon shock cord failure is eminent. This doesn't affect the main function of the grill itself, but it IS very nice to be able to simply pickup the whole tripod setup and move it without having any leg segments fall apart if one of the nylon cords has failed. Again, more of a potential nuisance than impact on function, but still very much had expected to get the metal chain leg tension that would be much more robust for a campfire / cooking situation. ... show more

  • The best camp grill ever made
Item Package Quantity: 1
I was looking for a new campfire grill for my latest camping trip to replace my last one. My last one was a typical grate grill with folding legs that just laid over the campfire. It did the job at the time, but can be difficult to use because it is low to the ground. I knew I wanted to get a tripod grill this time as they are taller and height adjustable. I could never find one built solid until I saw this one from Coughlan's so I decided to purchase it based on the reviews. The poles are bungee threaded so less pole parts to keep track of and it is very simple and quick to put together. After using it, I was not disappointed! This is THE grill to get for camping! We were able to lower the height when grilling and just raised it up higher when adding logs to the fire. We never had to move the tripod itself. It was a bonus that we could detach the chain from the grill to a lantern if need be. Will definitely recommend again. ... show more

  • Best thing I've seen for cooking over a camp fire
Item Package Quantity: 1
I've used this on numerous trips and its works fantastically. You can set it up over the ringed fire pits that you get at many sites, or put it on top of the rocks of the U shaped pits you find on other sites, or pretty much anywhere. The general idea is that you move the grill up or down depending on the size of the flame. This is particularly handy when you’ve got the perfect coals to cook over and someone annoying throws more logs on the fire when you went to grab another beer. Another hint is that when the fire gets too hot to adjust the grill chain with your hand, you can use a spatula and tongs together to adjust the chain height at a distance. Also if the fire is uneven you can spin the grill like a glass plate at the bottom a microwave so the fire doesn't burn the food on one side of the grill. One downside of the grill is that if the fire gets to hot, the elastic holding the legs together will melt. Easy to fix though, just bring along some elastic paracord and knot one end and feed it through. ... show more

  • It was so easy to put this tri-pod together
Item Package Quantity: 1
It was so easy to put this tri-pod together! No problem cooking over a campfire. We used charcoal in the fire ring for one meal. It was very simple to adjust the height of the grill for burgers. Another time we used an iron skillet over a fire for baked beans (make sure a pan or skillet is centered!). As other reviewers have said, you can't use it to cook over a bonfire; it's to use over a cooking fire. We had no issue with the elastic cords in the poles. We did purchase plastic caps to go over the ends of the poles ($1.94 at the hardware store), so the poles didn't fill with dirt since they are hollow. The tri-pod easily fit over the outside the very large fire at our campsite, but we could have placed it inside of the fire ring since the diameter of our fire wasn't excessive. The grill was easy to clean (I sprayed it with Pam before using it). The legs of the tr-pod wiped off easily before being put away. ... show more
