Kitty is not getting around as well and having a little warming enclosure on our back porch with this inside keeps her close and keeps her warm. It works in really cold temperatures although when it got to be subzero, the highest temperature had to be used which is fine. There is nothing chew-proof about the pad, even the cord. But I wanted to mention that I wrote to the seller to get clarification about the two contradictory instructions that show up in the enclosed owner's guide and the additional email addendum Clawsable sent me after shipping. 1). The pad MAY be folded when not in use without damage to heating element, but NEVER when the heat is on, (after all, it arrives tightly folded in its box). 2). The pad MAY be covered with a blanket or the dog's bed, but if the covering is too thick, the heat will not get to the dog, of course. All instructions are written by a non-native-English-speaker so they are not easy to understand. ... show more

I ordered 2 of these pads on December 11th. My dogs like to lay outside on my shop porch while I'm working, or if I leave to go to town. It is extremely cold here in the winter. The velveteen cover is super easy to unzip and wash. The plastic pad that encases the heating wire is great for windy, rainy/snowy days. So almost three months later they are still working great. *UPDATE*. I ended up putting this in the outside cat house I got anyway because it got down to 14 degrees and I knew the straw wouldn't be enough and I had 2 smaller cats going inside. This morning I went outside early to see if it was still on and it wasn't...tryed turning it back on and it wouldn't go on and there was a funny metal smell. Well, I found that the control burnt up!!! Now it's useless and I only had it for 3 months!! I am so upset because now my kitties only have straw to go in for warmth and we are supposed to have teens again this weekend!! Don't buy this made in China crap because it is not safe! Luckily it didn't start a fire with kitties in it right next to my house!!! I originally got this to put in an outside cat house I got for the strays I feed, but they are not getting in it, so I filled it with straw in case they do and if it gets real cold will use a heat lamp instead. So I am using it for (2) 3 month old kittens I haven't found homes for yet, as the room they are in at night stays a little cooler than the rest of my house with the door closed. They definitely love their bed and know it's a toasty warm bed for them at night. I set it on high for 12 hours to keep them warm all night and it works great and is very soft to snuggle together....sometimes their mom joins them too! ... show more
