My husband (who loves to cook!!) had a stroke last year. Using a traditional knife was quite difficult with one hand. The mezaluna is made for one handed cutting and allowed my husband to do most of his own prep work again! He has 2 of them. One to wash in the dishwasher and one to use while the other one washes. I put it in the very back of the top rack in the middle with the blade up. This reduces the chances of injury from the blade. VERY SHARP BLADE! So be extra careful! I use it as well and really like how effectively it cuts. My husband has a special cutting board with spikes on it to hold the food in place. FOR ME, I love this. I'm thinking about ordering another one. If you want to chop something without using a knife (where you could possibly cut yourself) or some other chopping device, this is great. I chopped shrimp, grilled chicken breast, and grilled ground chicken. Easy for me to add to a salad. FOR ME, this is an awesome kitchen tool. I have been looking for a board to use with my mezzaluna for years! I have used old bowls, cutting boards, and purchased a few wooden bowls because using a mezzaluna on a cutting board means things fly, or just fall off. It is so nice to finally have one the right size and shape, to be able to chop nuts, or herbs to the correct size for a recipe and not to have to get out a food processor or chopper or blender for half a cup of nuts. The package with the mezzaluna and board is such a good deal that I bought it even though I already had a mezzaluna, and because I wanted to be absolutely sure it fit, (It does). My old Mezzaluna is by KitchenAid, and it is exactly the same size and shape as the one which comes with this set. In fact, they are almost indistinguishable but for the color. The well on the board is just right, width and depth. It fits the blade well and will hold 1/2-1 cup of chopped nuts. It is nice and thick and easy to clean, easy to store. It is made of solid wood, beech wood I believe. It is not made of glued or laminated pieces, like some cutting boards I have gotten. I wouldn't call it a display item, but it is solid and well enough made that it ought to last a good long time and not split from humidity or a light washing. This knife isn't as sharp as other rocker knives I've had. It will cut easy things but isn't quite sharp enough to easily cut through a chicken breast. It's not terrible, but I wouldn't recommend it.
