On the PowerShot D30, detected scenes are analyzed using 32 predefined shooting situations. The camera then makes optimal settings to ensure the best possible image capture, whether you're shooting stills or video. Smart AUTO also includes Advanced Subject Detection, which allows the camera to detect and track non-human moving subjects like animals and vehicles. With Smart AUTO, all you have to do is frame your shot and capture away.Shooting Modes Smart AUTO The camera automatically selects the best shooting settings for optimal quality based on subjects and environmental factors to provide point-and-shoot simplicity. Program The camera automatically and intelligently selects the aperture/shutter speed combination based on the shooting conditions. Movie Digest Automatically selects shooting settings for optimal quality and records a video clip every time you capture a still image. One day's worth of clips are then combined into a single video. Portrait Brings the subject into focus while beautifully blurring the background. Smart Shutter The camera automatically takes the photo when people smile, wink, or get into frame. Handheld Night Scene Take clear and steady pictures at night without the use of a tripod. Low Light For high quality image capture in an amazing range of dimly lit situations. Fisheye Effect Now you can get the fisheye effect – a classic photographic distortion – without a fisheye lens. Miniature Effect Give images a miniature look with an effect that emphasizes perspective by blurring the top and bottom of the image. Toy Camera Effect Simulates photos taken with "toy" or pinhole cameras, darkening the image at the edges to create a vignette effect. Monochrome Choose from three single-tone effects: Black-and-White, Sepia, or Blue. Super Vivid Super Vivid intensifies existing hues, saturating the scene with bright colors. Poster Effect Poster Effect combines several similar shades into one color, turning subtle gradations into eye-catching, scene-popping contrasts. Color Accent Choose to retain a single color in your image while other colors turn monochrome. Color Swap Select a color and replace it with a color you specify for special effects. Underwater Capture underwater images with reduced backscatter effect. Underwater Macro Enables close-ups by capturing a magnified image of the subject. Snow Shoot clear snow scenes without darkened subjects or an unnatural bluish tint. Fireworks Create brilliant images of skyrocketing fireworks. Long Shutter Use to blur moving subjects for artistic effect, ideal for urban night photography. Stitch Assist Easy-to-use guidelines simplify the shooting of aligned multiple frames that can later be combined (using bundled software) to create panoramic photos. Movie Record video; unwanted scenes can be deleted in playback mode. iFrame Movie The Apple® movie format, iFrame, makes it easier and quicker to import and upload videos while retaining high image quality. Super Slow Motion Movie Record your clips in high speed (approx. 240 fps), and then watch your videos in slow motion. Actual results may vary from examples shown above. Final image may vary depending on picture composition.A Steady Image is a Beautiful ImageIntelligent ISThe innovative Canon Optical Image Stabilization technology, Intelligent IS, analyzes camera movement and applies the best shake correction method for the shooting situation. For stills, the system automatically selects among Normal, Panning, Macro (Hybrid) and Tripod modes. When shooting video, the system automatically selects among Dynamic, Powered, Macro and Tripod modes. With Intelligent IS, you can concentrate on image capture, letting the camera make the most effective IS settings to help capture the steadiest possible image.Normal Corrects for a wide range of camera movement when shooting stills. Panning Panning motion is detected so that IS does not interfere with desired camera movement. Macro (Hybrid) Corrects for shift-type camera shake, which typically occurs in macro (close- up) shooting. Dynamic Effective for video shooting at wide-angle focal lengths, eliminating the unwanted shaking that typically occurs while walking. Powered Compensates for hand movement when shooting video at the telephoto end of the zoom range, where camera shake is magnified. Tripod When tripod use is detected, the Image Stabilizer is stopped because it is not needed.

  • Great underwater photos and videos, no leaks.
Style: Base
Bought the D30 to replace my old Canon A95 Powershot (5MP) with an expensive dive case that I used to dive with. That camera finally died, and the expensive waterproof case will only fit that particular model. I was able to dive to 130 feet using the waterproof case. You can only go to 82 feet with the D30, but it's pretty rare these days where we dive deeper than 80 feet. We always get a dive briefing before we jump into the water, so if I know it is going to be a deeper dive, I'll just leave the camera on the boat. Just returned from vacation and got to try out this camera for the first time. I was a little concerned after reading a lot of reviews where people reported their camera leaked. I brought the camera on four dives down to 70 feet, and brought it snorkeling and took lots of photos above ground as well. Used it in underwater mode for all dives and snorkeling and was very impressed with the quality of the underwater photos and videos. The underwater mode did a great job at taking out the blue cast on both still photos and videos. I used to dive with a Canon A95 camera in an expensive waterproof case, and I would have to photo shop all of the dive photo's afterwards to take out the blue cast, which worked well, but was very time consuming. The D30 is SO much less bulky to carry rather than my old Canon in an underwater case. No need to photoshop these photos at all. I was happy with the quality on land as well. It was nice to be able to take the camera on the beach and not worry about sand or water. I still brought my other Canon for land photos (model SX200 IS), but only took a couple of photos with it because I was very happy with the quality of the D30 photos. Probably wouldn't bother bringing both cameras again on an island trip. I am wondering if Canon fixed the issues with leaking, or if I was just lucky and got a good camera that didn't leak, or if mine didn't leak because I made sure to never open the camera on the beach or when it was damp, when I needed to change the memory card or battery. All it would take is one grain of sand in the battery/memory card seal for it to leak so you have to be careful. You also have to be just as ultra careful if you are using the setup I was using before with a camera and an underwater case. They say when using an underwater case, it's not a matter of "IF" your camera will flood, but "WHEN". I was always anal taking care of that underwater case and never had a leak after diving with it for 10 years. ... show more

  • Canon Powershot D30 Waterproof Digital Camera
Style: Base
I purchased this camera in March 2016. I used it in May at Stingray City in Grand Cayman, no snorkeling but it did get wet. It takes fairly good pictures and is easy to use. The rubber grip on the front makes it easy to hold and the operation is simple. Fast forward to June. I was attempting to take pictures of grandchildren in the water. Keep in mind this is only the second time I have used this camera. I took just a few pictures and the LCD screen went black. I couldn't see what I was shooting, which made the camera useless. I did get a few pictures by just blindly pointing the camera. But it was a big disappointment. When I came home I opened the compartments expecting to find water, but all the compartments were dry. I turned the camera over and water came out the disp. button. I have mailed the camera to the repair center and I will see what happens. I won't purchase another camera like this ever again. It wasn't an expensive camera, but way too expensive for having been used only twice and getting just a few pictures. ... show more

  • A DIVER'S DREAM
Style: Base
I took this little baby for some rides down to the coral reef and it exceeded my expectations: AWESOME. PROS: 1.- 82 feet deep (...and maybe more) without bulky cases? Cool! 2.- Made for diving: Compact, good grip, easy one-hand operation even with gloves, dedicated video button, etc. A diver's dream. 3.- The subaquatic mode (software filter) really WORKS! Kudos Canon, colours pop out as if the camera had a strobe attached; most of my underwater pictures were GREAT without any tweaks, just point that turtle and shoot. 4.- Long battery life. I charged mine after six dives just to make sure, but it may have lasted longer. 5.- Great underwater video too: full HD with autofocus. CONS: 1.- Bigger than my previous cameras. I had a thin and small Sony TX30 but it died at 90 ft (OK, it was rated for 33 ft, my fault). Anyway all my buddies have cameras WITH cases, they all look like huge daguerrotypes when compared to this Canon D30 :p so I can't complaint. I've also used a GoPro, it was smaller too, but it had no LCD screen, battery lasted 1 or 2 dives only, and photos were not good at all. Anyway this camera makes better video IMO than the GoPro, down there in the deep. I guess all the 1 or 2 star reviews are from non-divers expecting DSLR quality in dry land. If you dive look no further: this little wet bottom camera is for you. The best diver's camera for ~$300. ... show more

  • Great photos and no moisture issues
Style: Base
This camera worked great for us - no issues at all with the seals leaking. I did my due diligence and read reviews and researched prior to purchasing this camera and I learned that ALL waterproof cameras should be rinsed thoroughly with fresh water and dried thoroughly prior to opening them to recharge battery, etc. With this in mind, we followed those instructions after each underwater use and we had no issues at all with moisture inside the compartments. In addition to the fresh water rinse and thorough drying, we inspected each compartment cover for even the tiniest drop of water or grain of sand prior to opening. A couple of times we did see a tiny drop of water or a grain of sand and we removed them and dried again (even waiting several hours for extra insurance) prior to opening. This seemed to work, as we used the camera daily for 7 days in the Virgin Islands and used it underwater on three different snorkeling excursions. It took great underwater photos and we are very pleased with the camera. Just be sure to follow all instructions and don't open compartments without a fresh water rinse and making sure absolutely no moisture around compartment openings or on seals. Attached are just three of the several dozen under water photos we took. By the way, for accurate underwater color, be sure to put camera on underwater setting. ... show more
