This dinnerware set is definitely ceramic (not porcelain like I think I saw in the description). It's thick and heavy, and it's really pretty. I was a little surprised, honestly. I expected it would look cheap when it showed up, but it does not. It looks like something you might see in a high-end department store. I will be interested to find out how the unglazed polka dots fare with liquids and foods that might stain...I don't know if they will come clean in the dishwasher or if we'll be looking at, say, blueberry stains the next time we use them. They are dishwasher safe, but that doesn't mean the unglazed ceramic will be stain resistant. They are also supposedly microwave safe, but my experience with ceramic dinnerware in the microwave is that it gets very hot. I have not tested this yet, but I will err on the side of cautious. You can never go wrong with a set of white dinnerware. I have always loved circles, so these are right up my alley. Because they are ceramic, they're not all exactly the same shape or depth, so if that might bother you, you may want to look for something else. Otherwise, I would recommend this dinnerware set just based on looks so far. Time will tell how it holds up to food, the dishwasher, and the microwave. ... show more
