I purchased two of these from the get go because they looked well made, I loved the minimalist design and it seemed sturdy. I was not disappointed. I love this tripod. It is intuitive, easy to use, and straightforward. They even threw in two retention screw because two is on and one is none. They did not have to do that, and it didn't go unnoticed.     • When I opened...
... the box, I was unimpressed. I was already thinking I wasn't going to like this stand. I didn't look like there was enough stuff in the box to make it work. I took the legs out first and set them up. I thought this is not going to be tall enough. I looked again and saw that the height is controlled by a stepped collar at the top. It is actually pretty steady. I looked at the 2 well nuts in the plastic bag and thought maybe 1 is for a scope mount, and it may be that too, but they are identical. Baize is already thinking ahead of me here, knowing I will probably lose one. I began to warm to it, attached the cradle, soft enough to conform and stiff enough to not shift nor collapse under the barrel weight. The thermoplastic overmolds on the bottom of the legs seem relatively skid resistant and the entire thing folds right into my range bag with no more effort than to squeeze the legs together. Takes up less space and is not nearly as cumbersome and heavy as my rice-filled rest bags. So, with all the pros, why only 4 stars,? Welp, I don't know about its longevity. I'll have to get back to you on that somewhere down the road. Meanwhile, I may just order another... just in case. Update: I took this to my local shooting range today and used it to support my 5.56. This particular range has recently re-done the shooting stalls with, among other things, new epoxy coated steel T tables and stools. The coating has a texture, but no recoil dispersion at all as there would be on the ground or a wooden surface. That caused the minimal recoil of the 5.56 to either lift the rifle out of the V notch on the pocket tripod or scoot it and the rifle backward toward me such that I was unable to get consecutive shots away on target. I had to set up again after every shot. There just isn't enough mass there to keep the light tripod in place on a textured but unforgiving surface. I will continue to use the tripod afield, but looks like I'm back to schlepping my rice bags to this particular range. Still, though, I like it better than any bipods. ... show more
