These come in 20 individual small sealed and labelled foil packets inside the main packet. The number of seeds varies: there were only 9 Beefsteak seeds, but there are 20 or more in some packets. April 30 2019 update: I already had some of these, so I only planted 14 of the varieties, 30 seeds in all. I kept them on what amounts to a heating pad (the top of my gas oven turned on very low) and babied them. 27 came up, so a germination rate of 90%. They look good so far, but I won't know if they're true to description until later. I researched the varieties before I bought this. They're mostly tomatoes with long waits until you get ripe fruit, the shortest being 70 days after transplanting for Black Cherry. That's best for places with long growing seasons, but because such tomatoes tend to taste good, we try them where the seasons are short too. There's a mix of colors: 8 red, 2 red/yellow bicolors, 1 red with brown striping, 3 dusky red to dark brown purple (called black), 3 orange (one called yellow), 1 yellow, 1 pale yellow (called white), 1 green with darker stripes. Also a variety of flavors, including low acid, sweet, tangy sweet/acid, and old-fashioned not so sweet. And a variety of common uses, including some favorites for sauces and canning. Size of fruit: 6 very large, 4 large, 8 medium, 2 small. -- Ace 55: True low-acid tomato (too low for hot-water bath canning without adding vinegar) with some sweetness, meaty, bright red, large, thick walled, disease resistant, crack resistant, 75-80 days. Reports are split on whether it's determinate or indeterminate, but descriptions from growers suggest a determinate tendency of heavy yield for a month. Reports also vary on usual size, from 6 to 14 ounces. -- Beefsteak: If this is the official named variety, it should be bright red, very large, juicy with prototypical hearty sub-acid tomato flavor, indeterminate, 80 days. -- Big Rainbow: Yellow to red outside sometimes striped, red marbling on lower part of yellow flesh inside, very large, mild sweet flavor, irregular shape, disease resistant, vigorous plants, indeterminate, 85 days.     • Great price for so many heirloom varieties!
Arrived fast. Planted 12 varieties, the black cherry and chocolate stripe had germination issues for me. Almost 2 weeks later and using more seeds I finally got them to germinate just popped their heads out of the soil. Not sure if this is a failure on my part or the seeds. The Black from Tula also had a slow germination but I did not have to re sow. The other 9 varieties I planted all germinated 100% and growing strong with true leaves already on them. Would have given 5 stars if I didn't have the germination issues. Update - Seller sent me more seeds. Everything I planted is doing well now but I do only have the single chocolate strip that germinated. I really wanted to try this variety so if it fails I now have more seeds which is good. I'll probably plant a couple more from the new seeds sent just in case my only choc stripes seedling doesn't make it. This speaks well for the seller and their product. Excellent cultivars of excellent varieties - these plants will not be fussy about fruiting the way heirlooms often are. Robust germinators too - anyone can sprout and grow these seeds. I can do it. You can do it. Your children can do it. Unless you live near the coolest boutique nursery to ever exist, a slick seed kit like this is hands down the easiest way to experience amazing tomatoes. If anyone reading this has never eaten anything fancier than an Early Girl, be advised these will blow your mind. ... show more

    • Heirloom seeds for a rainbow of tomatoes
Seeds are packaged individually by kind, labeled and included an informational paper with thorough description of each kind and date/time it would be best to seed/ and replant. Great seeds, More than half of each packet germinated and I got tomato plants for days. Planted 3 plants of each kind and my backyard turned into a tomato forrest of 6o plants, providing me with a rainbow of tomatoes to can, juice and jar, I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend these heirloom seeds every year. ... show more
