I had used Braun for over 50 years. But the last two broke down very easily after a few years. So, because of that and the high cost of replacement, I opted for a Panasonic Arc 3 about 3 years ago. The shave was very good, but even with replacement head and cutters,3 years on, I was no longer impressed. So, last month I ordered an Arc 5 model. I tried it and it left me with sore skin and did not give me a comfortable or close shave. And it took too many passes to remove my stubble. And it didn't really do that very well. Numerous hairs were left untouched. Thus it was the subject of a return. Yesterday my new Braun arrived. Absolute chalk and cheese to the Arc 5. First shave this morning and, not only did it take less passes, but extremely comfortable and close shave. I really recommend this shaver to anyone who may have skin that cannot take the harshness of some shaver brands. More expensive than I wanted to shell out. But, absolutely the right choice. Only negative point, is that it did not come with a foil head protective cover. I also think the charging stand is to unsubstantiated to hold the shaver. It has a very narrow base, that could cause the shaver to topple over. That in turn could damage the foil head. So, I will charge it directly to a power outlet with the cable. ... show more

This is the third Braun shaver I have owned. The last one was the Series 7 which I still have and still works. I decided to upgrade to this Series 9 Pro. MAJOR difference in the shave quality. The 9 Pro is definitely the closest electric shave I have ever had. The auto cleaning feature of the charging stand also works much better than the Series 7. I am very satisfied with this shaver. The replacement head is expensive but is recommended to be changed every 18 months. My series 7 had to be replaced every 6 months. Make sure you buy the actual “Made in Germany” real replacement head and not the counterfeit cheaper Chinese knock-off! ... show more

I bought this to replace razors because no matter what brand I bought, what shaving cream/gel/butter I used, my face would be torn up and raw from daily shaving for the military. I've been using this for about a month now straight, and while it doesn't get QUITE as close as a razor would in terms of a shave, it does keep the face smooth for the majority of the morning and afternoon to a standard that's accepted in the military. It charges very quickly, cleans very easily, and gets the job done quite well. As a devoted user of Panasonic shavers for 20+ years, I never thought i would switch to Braun. But a few months ago, my Arc5's rechargeable battery started failing again. Too lazy to repair it, I looked up "world's most powerful shaver" since I have a pretty coarse beard. This Braun Series 9 is what popped up. The reviews looked promising, so I thought, what the hell, let's give it a shot. This shaver has the power of a handheld lawnmower, obliterating a 3-day old beard in half the time of my old shaver. And yet, it's 5-10dB quieter, too. The shave is also noticeably closer. And so far, it has never nicked my skin, even on repeated passes on the same area. Works great, wet or dry. Basically, a marvel of engineering. If you have a tough beard, or just want the closest, fastest shave in the land, look no further than the Braun Series 9.     • Still need to use my cheap hand razor

The blades are weak against my one to two day beard and mustache. It leaves untrimmed hairs all over and I'm constantly trying to shave the same area several times ending up leaving the area red with strands of fully intact hairs. I clean and dry the blades as indicated and even use the self cleaning device with the alcohol accessory. I even use soap or shaving cream for a closer and smoother shave but end up wasting too much time, too much irritation, and hairs still sticking out. My $10 disposable hand shaver works better and faster. I often have to finish my electric shaving step with my final cheap razor step since I'm yearning to really like this product by using it often but only to be disappointed each time. Either the blades are not sharp enough, or the design is not so intuitive. I'm stuck with an item I can no longer return. You should demo one before purchase if you can ... show more

I have tried tons of electric shavers including the babyliss pro foil shaver, Remington balder pro, and others and none of them even come close to the Braun series 9 pro. Extremely close shave and ZERO irritation. All other shavers caused bad irritation and long shaves, not the Braun. Well worth every penny! ... show more

    • Disappointed in performance

I have been using a Braun shaver for over 15 years. My previous one was a Braun 5 Series. I was satisfied with it but it was old and the battery was failing. I chose to upgrade to this product because of the reviews. I have been using it for about 8 months. It does provide a closer shave than the 5 Series, but requires more effort. However, the pop-up trimmer is practically useless. It requires repeated digging into your skin to get just "most" of the hair. I may have a defective trimmer but have not contacted Braun. I use my old Braun 5 series for trimming. The charging stand is very flimsy. I have to take care to ensure it is set and connected. But the charge seems to last a sufficient time. This is a very expensive shaver and I was expecting much more. This experience will probably have me looking at alternative replacement shavers in the future.
