Far and away, the best shave I have had in years — maybe ever! For 45 years I have used the “best” razor and blades on the market. I used store bought razors and used mail order clubs to order razors. I considered myself someone who would NEVER try an electric razor. I tried a couple of electric razors 30 years ago, and they were terrible. They pulled my skin, gave a poor shave, and left red marks on my face. A friend told me electric razors have come a long way in the last 30 years, so I reluctantly gave it a try. After reading many reviews, I decided to get a top-of-the-line brand and model. The Braun Model 9 Pro FAR EXCEEDED my expectations. It gives me a great, close shave with a dry beard. When my beard is wet, it gives me one of the best shaves I have ever had. My shaving time is cut in half, I have no razor burn, and the shave is better than with my mail order, club razor. The cleaning system is fantastic. This will save me money on supplies too. I will still have to buy foils and cleaning trays, but it will be less expensive than the blades. The negative with the Braun Pro 9 is the initial cost, which is around $300, or more, depending on model. You will save money on supplies, but it will take a while to recoup your $300 with this savings. However, I think the price is worth it — although this is the maximum price point I would pay — the shave feels that good. If the price was $50 - $100 lower, I would buy several as gifts for family and friends.     • Perhaps the best shave I've ever had

I was always a bit sceptical about buying an electric razor like this. I mean look at the price! I then watched as the cost of disposable razors, and the impact they have, has spiralled. Should I reconsider? What should I look for? What options are there? HOW MUCH WILL IT COST!? You know - all the usual questions and dilemmas you have. Let's break it down. For me, as for many, price is always a serious consideration. Perhaps the first? Not always. I found that cheaper disposable razors would cause me skin rashes and more cuts. The better (and generally costlier) the disposable razor, the better the shave. I leaned towards the high end range of disposable razors - with electric motors. It's a good shave, so can it be as good with an electric shaver? I hadn't really thought about it until I couldn't get the razors I needed due to supply issues. I started to look into electric razors. I have to admit I had tried and electric razor years ago and it felt like the hairs were being ripped out of my face. That put me off and every time I used to think about getting one the experience came back from a memory cell I would have expected to have died years ago. I found out that there are 2 types of electric razor blade, foil (also called oscillating) and rotary. It was the rotary I had tried so I decided to avoid them. This quickly narrows down the choice and it came down to brand, recommendations and price. The Braun stood out but is expensive - how does it compare to my disposable razors? Shaving experience: I think this is as important as cost. I found that the Braun gives me a better experience and is friendlier to the planet. I don't have to fill a basin with water. I can dry or wet shave (splash of water or oil). The quality of the shave is identical, if not better for the Braun. It took me a while to get used to the shaver but once I did the shave is amazing. I will point out that there are some hairs I am struggling to get but I'm putting that down to technique. Cost: The upfront cost of an electric shaver can put you off. However, when you compare it to the ongoing costs, the numbers speak for themselves. I live in New Zealand and the average cost of 4 premium razor blades is approx $NZ25-$NZ35. Sometimes you get a 6 pack for that price, mainly it's 4 blades. So let's say 1 blade per week at $NZ6 per blade = approximately $NZ300 per year. It's amazing how expensive it can be! I paid just under $NZ600 for my new Braun delivered to my house from the US - and it took just over 2 weeks from order to delivery! You should replace the Braun head approximately every 18 months @$NZ90. I will be cutting it even at just over 2 years of shaving. Personally, I wish I'd bought an electric shaver years ago. I last used a Remington electric razor 25 years earlier when I switched to a safety razor. I bought this to see if I could get as close a shave in same time. Still not as close but a very nice razor. I’ve used it inside the shower and out. The cleaning stand is a bit bulky and the cleaner is basically diluted isopropyl alcohol. Works great and plows through 5 days of stubble easily.
