  • We're not in Germany any more

Got this Braun 310s to replace my not-quite-dead 10 yr old Braun 340 (discontinued). After reading the reviews, I wanted to try Braun’s bottom-of-the-line for comparison, and to see where the cost-cutting appears. As an aside, I wonder if Braun really needs six different lines (Series 3,5,6,7,8,9) of electric shavers. The 310’s goodness: • Well it works fine, and features the same motor and drive mechanism as its Series 3 stablemates. • Uses any Series 3 cassette heads. Comes with one 21b, but accepts the slightly better 32b/32s when needed. • Charger adapter interchangeable with older Series 3 coil corded chargers, in both directions. All UL Listed. • Charger w/cable lighter than old coil cord one (66g vs. 100g) so save your old charger, and use the new one for travel. • Body lighter than my old 340 (158g vs. 200g) but feels very solidly built. • Wet or dry operation. Essentially dunk-proof. Looking into its charger port, it appears sealed. • 30-day Braun USA money back guarantee, 2-yr Braun USA limited warranty (excluding head) Here’s where the cost-cutting happened: • No pop-up trimmer. If that’s essential, look at the similar Braun 3040s. • Slightly lower capacity battery (listed 30min vs 45min for its stablemates) but still features quick 1-min charge to allow you to finish your shave. • The only accessories provided are the charger, and a plastic head protector cap. No oil, no brush, no travel case, nothing else. The head protector cap does not extend to protect the power button as on some models. • The blue side body is smooth plastic, the black grippy overmoulding runs down the center front. This is the reverse of the old 340, and odd for something intended to be used in a wet slippery environment. • The charger feels less substantial, but of good quality, features a straight 44 inch cable, which is about the length of the old coil cable when fully extended. You’ll likely want a velcro strap or rubber band to preclude travel-tangle. The 310s will *not* run when plugged in to charge. So cordless-only operation. This is not so much a bug as it is a safety feature to avoid Braun granting a Darwin award to those who, in an AM rush to shower&shave, might run an AC extension cord to the charger to the shaver… in the shower. The instruction book actually addresses this, albeit not Darwin. The LED will fast-flash when running low, and if it dies while you’re shaving, a minute or so charge will actually give you enough runtime to finish. Full charge from dead takes about an hour. Braun’s dry-only shavers do run corded or cordless. So my experiment in Braun cost-cutting has proved successful. If you like the Series 3 heads, want wet-dry operation, and don’t miss the trimmer, the 310s does the job at a very decent price. --- ... show more

  • Unexpectedly replaced all my shaving products
Color: Blue Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
Bought this to simplify shaving my head through the week since I'd had some barbers use them in the past. I'd heard that you needed to pay big money for a good one of these, so trying this was a gamble for me. Turns out I had nothing to worry about, since it is by far my favorite way to shave now! Unexpected perk: It works great for shaving my face to. I have to shave every day for work (military) and using a razor always had my face fairly chewed up by the end of the week. This does 90% as good of a job of getting close to the skin, with hardly any of the irritation afterwards. My facial hair is fairly thin, so a fast grower with thicker hair might find themself using it mid-day to stay clean shaven, but still. My scalp hair is super dense though, so the fact that this can chew through it down to an almost perfectly smooth scalp with near zero irritation is amazing to me. Standard caveats of using a foil shaver apply: It does best on shorter hair. If I go over a long weekend or a whole week without shaving my head, it takes much more work to shave it back down with this, but if I use it every day on my face and every 2-3 days on my head, it's a dream solution. Long facial hair that wants to stay stuck down close to my skin is especially problematic and may require lots of extra work, or an actual razor to have better luck with. However, I'd heard that these aren't as great for random directional hair as other shaver styles... I didn't find that to be a hindrance for shaving my head, which has super aggressive directional changes near the peak and rear. I just use it like I'd use a normal razor: rough work with the grain, fine work against the grain to get a smooth finish. Difference is, it doesn't have a solid chance of making me bleed when I go against the grain for a smoother finish, nor does it pull hair like crazy if it's not being used perfectly. I did break the head after about 5 weeks of use. I was trying to disassemble it for a deeper clean and got too aggressive with it I guess, causing a plastic tab to snap. Woops. Amazon overnight got me a new one the next day and even if I decided to replace these monthly (probably overkill), the heads are still economical compared to keeping normal razors sharp with constant replacements. ... show more

  • Very good electric razor
Color: Blue Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
I've had my razor for almost a year now and have almost nothing but positive things to say about it. The biggest thing that impresses me about it is how long it holds a charge. I put the razor on charge about once a week, but I think I could probably get away with charging it less than half that often. Biggest gripe about the razor is that it does a horrible job of getting rid of those fine little white hairs that aren't as coarse as regular beard/moustache hairs. After shaving, I'll often find one lone long white hair somewhere on my face or neck or sometimes a group of them. It's easy enough to take the "shearing" blade to them later, but I find it embarrassing until I can get home. The shearing blade attachment is great for trimming up sideburns and eyebrows. I even use it for "manscaping" down south as well. LOL. Very good razor for the price. Well done, Braun! ... show more

  • Good razor for the price
Color: Blue Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
I have used an electric razor for about 20 years. I have always bought Norelco in the past but the last 2 I bought were junk and failed in less than a rear and gave a poor shave. The Braun is head and shoulders better and gives an excellent shave. Would definitely recommend.
