ups dollied it up to my garage door, and rolled it inside after ringing door bell. Box was manufactured box and Styrofoam was molded to protect and surround the 100 pound Boss log splitter.It was simple to open box and remove machine from box. A+ I read directions in manual just because wise thing to do. I opened the fly nut 6 or 7 times and ran it until air was out of hydraulic line. After retightened I decided to check oil on the stick after reading reviews about oil being at lowest line from factory. I tilted it up on end and put 7mm hex in nut and will not move. I mean will not turn loose. So I called 800 number. Got a very pleasant gentlemen on phone that told me that's because they use thread lock so it will not leak in transit. He said you have to give the hex wrench a hard tap to break the glue or use a lock creasant wrench (vise-grips) to lock on the round end of hex dip stick and give that a tap to loosen. This is not in the manual. Word of advise: Do not strip your 7mm hex nut, use the lock wrench and tap it and behold it is loose. Then screw it out with hex wrench that is included. I found the hydrologic oil to still be between the lines. Then I spent about 3 hours splitting about half a cord of wood. it went through my hard sweet gum ball wood like butter( if you get it with the grain) . Stacked it and covered it and done. Also use some kind of silicone spray on the black and red back and forth stuff. Oil will cause wood chips to stick to it. And it helps to prevent screeching sounds. Great price, great design, great one handed control. I'll never wear this thing out. The media could not be loaded. I split around 3 chords of wood per year by hand. Starting to get carpal tunnel. I had a narly ash that I just could not split, it was so twisted. I bought this 7 ton unit because most my logs are 16 inch or under. This machine went right through the twisted logs, could not be happier. It is slow, but I knew that going in. This unit worked great right out of the box, just screw on the handle, open the vent 5 turns. One caution- when standing the unit upright (after unscrewing the handle), watch that the threaded bolt for the handle does dig into the ground, I guess you could bend it. Use a piece of 2x4 to rest it on. It is a bit cumbersome to wheel around, but I’m only going 30 feet from my shed. I highly recommend. ... show more

I'm a seller on amazon so I know how to do a good product review being fair . I just got this and have only put about a 1/2 cord through it so far. I bought the 4 way wedge to go with it and the extended legs. I wouldn't recommend getting the legs as it was very hard to install the black metal tubing for the legs the manufacturer overtightened bending the tubs so the extended tub legs I got wouldn't fit in without me pounding them round again with a hammer. There were new holes to put long bolts through and the holes needed me to drill out a little bit larger this should have been an easy install but took me and a friend about 3 hours, stood it up and I would say it is still pretty flimsy , I wouldn't wast my money on these legs,I would probably use a back of a pickup if you have one. I'm in New Mexico and most of the wood we get is 10-12 in and not much hard wood but I did have some 20' rounds from last year. The splitter went through the 10-12 with the 4-way wedge very good but, I would recommend not going any bigger then that as the wedge tends to move upwards and may damage the primary wedge if your not careful but I am happy I got it for the type of wood I'm getting here. I tried the 20in logs with some success but had to go around the log chipping small pieces at a time which took a long time and you would get the wedge stuck in the wood a lot and would have to stop and knock it off and turn the machine off and then restart it again so it would take about 30 minutes to get it done and I would be straining the machine but don't get me wrong I'm happy with the machine but, I think anyone thinking of getting this should keep in mind that the manufacturer states the biggest logs that this machine can do is 20.5 and 10.5 in diameter and thats what I think. If I were doing larger rounds 20 plus or more I wouldn't get this machine I would get a 16 ton and go through them fast and easy so of the other reviews are saying that this goes right through 20plus in logs I don't think so unless you're splitting popular wood or something like that with out any knots, the the big rounds that I was trying to split wasn't even hard wood . This log splitter is for smaller logs up to 12in just like the manufacturer says. The package came very quick 3 days. 4 stars for now but, will update in the future when I can tell if it lasts and if it's durable. I hope this was helpful to some people thinking of buying this machine. ... show more
