  • Way to go, Boox.
Fantastic - BUT MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHY YOU'RE BUYING. Don't get this if you just want an e-reader. Don't buy this for a phone replacement (doesn't have SIM card, and doesn't do videos well at all). Use case: e-reader that you can carry around in your pocket. This makes me take it everywhere and I can read or do productive things on the go, instead of "doom scrolling." I also am enjoying using this to learn more vocab, as a secondary productive thing to do (with dictionary and flashcard apps). The Palma for me is my go-to productive past time. Great to have as it stops the doom scrolling, if you stick to it - I can whip this bad boy out instead of my phone... Which leads to YouTube shorts. Of course it's a great e-reader (but, for example, the kindle paper white has better screen quality and is larger). One more pro is that the form factor can be ADVANTAGEOUS even for long form reading --- maybe. Having shorter lines is maybe beneficial for reading speed (but conflicting data on this). CON of this is that there are more line breaks (and words being split by hyphens). I love the Palma. (Give me mobile data for next gen and it will replace my phone) ... show more

  • More cons than pros
I wanted an e-ink device so that I could get less blue light and less eye strain. I decided to get the Palma 2 because some things I wanted to read required apps and websites. So I couldn't get a normal e-reader. Having an Android e-ink device was going to be good. I also liked the size and adjustable speed of the display. I don't really care for big tablets. I like the size of a smaller phone. The screen contrast not good. The background is too yellow/cream and the text is not dark enough. I wish the background was off white and the text was a darker black. It is hard to see even in a room with two 71 watt equivalent light bulbs. It's easier on my eyes to use a device with an OLED screen in dark mode. For some reason the Palma 2 doesn't come with a dark mode setting in the Android settings. But I tried dark mode in an app and it was still difficult to read and strained my eyes. The contrast between the background and foreground color just isn't great enough. It is better with the back light turned on. But then I have a blue light shining in my eyes which I don't want. The touchscreen is sometimes unresponsive, especially in two areas: When I try to swipe "back" it often ignores me. My thumb gets very tired trying to swipe ten times in a row. Also the "Enter" key on the keyboard often ignores the press. I have to press it a second time almost every time. But scrolling up and down seems to work very good and fast! So something is strangely wrong. Pros: * E-ink * Android * Smaller than a tablet * Better screen refresh rate than some e-ink devices Cons: * Contrast between the background and foreground color is not enough. * It puts more strain on my eyes than an OLED screen in dark mode. * No dark mode setting in the Android settings. * Still too big for my hands. I like the size of an iPhone 16 Pro. But the Palma 2 is closer to the size of an iPhone 16 Pro Max. * The touchscreen is sometimes unresponsive. * The microphone button on the keyboard doesn't recognize anything I say. I know the mic works because the microphone for Google search recognizes what I say just fine. Medium: * The speaker is not very good but I could have lived with it if it weren't for all the other cons. ... show more
