  • Switched from Kindle and I'm in love
Color: White
I was disappointed when Kindle discontinued their Oasis and didn't release any kindles with page turn buttons.. which led me here! This device is super comfortable to hold with or without a case and the page turn buttons are amazing. They click well while not being noisy. I personally love the UI so much more than Kindle's. I find it to be a lot less glitchy as well. Kobo Plus is also pretty good but obviously there will be some books that aren't available due to being exclusive with KU. Having Overdrive on the device itself is also a huge plus, I only wish you could be logged into multiple cards at one time on the device. The screen will probably be hit or miss for most people. I actually really like it because to me it looks more like real paper as opposed to an electronic screen. If you've used the Paperwhite or Boox Page, this definitely doesn't look like that due to the color screen. It is a bit more grainy and almost looks like you're reading on a newspaper. I find myself preferring this actually because of the more authentic look to a physical book. The colors are good in my opinion too. Don't expect extremely vibrant colors as this isn't an iPad, it's still e-ink. The daily book deals on the Kobo store are also a good selection. The note-taking feature is perfect. I really love that you can write anywhere on the screen and change highlight / pen colors. My complaint is that the stylus doesn't come with Kobo Libra though. And the stylus is expensive. ... show more

  • Screen is fine. Color adds a nice touch in the UI
Color: Black
I had this for a month now. The reader is fast and responsive. Store works good and it easy to sideload books you previously had too. The screen is fine, did not have a problem with the brightness. Easy to read, and seeing covers in color adds a nice touch.

  • Very pleased with my purchase!
Color: Black
I've been using Kindle devices since they were introduced. Currently using an Oasis which has been great. I purchased a Kindle Paperwhite Signature last month, as my Oasis battery life is not doing so well. I returned the new Paperwhite Signature after a couple days of use because 1) I don't like having to touch the screen to turn the page 2) the power button is on the bottom, where I am regularly pressing it on accident and putting it to sleep while I am still reading. The Kobo Libra still offers physical buttons, and also the ability to customize how touching the screen turns pages. You can "disable" a simple touch and only move pages with swipes. This is how I set mine. Now I can hold the device however it is most comfortable at the time without the page turning until I either swipe or press the buttons. The "colour" feature is nice, but I primarily use this to read novels, so not a big selling point for me. The screen quality looks as good as the Oasis and the Paperwhite, and the speed is also very comparable. I use Calibre to manage my books, and it very easily was set up to move books to my new Libra without any "tech" knowledge required. If you borrow ebooks from your library, the Libra is very easy to use as well. Love it. No regrets on switching yet. ... show more

  • Pretty good if you're comfortable with the compromises
Color: Black
Been using Kobo devices since the Aura One Limited Edition however this is my first 7 inch device from them. Overall, I think this is a fairly solid ereader and will make some people happy and others less so. Also a disclaimer, I did have to return and replace the ereader as the first one I received had a pinhole defect in the screen. Something to keep an eye out for. Let's start with the compromises: - The screen is inherently darker as the color layer of the Kaleido 3 tech sits on top of the regular B/W layer. You are more likely to use the front light more often and usually at higher levels than you might be used to in most indoor settings. - The color layer also adds a certain grain or screen door effect to the overall image that some might find off-putting, especially those who are coming from Carta screen devices. - That grain can also cause a moiré effect in some B/W content, primarily manga from what I've personally experienced, where you will see rainbow banding. It will happen at varying levels depending on the book, either from barely-existent to technicolor dreamcoat. There is an option in the reader settings that *might* reduce the effect but it achieves this by blurring the image and it won't totally get rid of it. Not sure it's worth the trade-off still. Now the good: - The SoC is pretty snappy, page turns are pretty quick. Impressive even with full color pages. - The page turn buttons are satisfyingly clicky. Libra 2 owners are probably used to this but my last device being the Kobo Sage which has terrible, mushy buttons, this is a godsend. - Large battery. This probably being a side effect of Kobo expecting users to use the frontlight more. It clocks in at 2050mAh. A large increase over the Sage's piddly 1200mAh. - Libby support by way of Overdrive. This has always been a killer feature for me. Unfortunately this is dependent on where you live and if your local library supports it. - A Libra with stock Google Drive and Dropbox support! - Pretty light and comfortable to hold in different orientations. - Repairability. Kobo has partnered with iFixit to provide replacement parts for sale and repair guides so hopefully I can get some decent mileage out of this ereader. Unfortunately I'm not really an annotator and as such, don't have the stylus so I can't comment on those features exactly, but being able to have some color choice on the highlighter is still a useful feature. Same with the audio book function, I tend to listen to them on my phone since it's more convenient. ... show more
