  • Exceptionally Quiet and Powerful Shredder With a Questionable Designed Bin And Very Odd Casters
Size: 14 Sheet-120Mins
First I must offer the caveat that my review is written during the honeymoon, and I am in the afterglow of using a shredder that can actually shred more than one sheet of 20 pound paper and not rip your eardrums out while doing so. Positives: --Quiet. The loudest thing on this shredder is the pip...pip...pip...sound of the paper being chewed up. No primeval screams of an under powered motor that rivals a Skill circular saw. It is as though the engineers at Bonsaii decided to devote the power of the shredder to actually shredding paper rather than ripping your eardrums out. The motor and drive train are very quiet and occasionally you will hear the internal fan come on to cool the unit and it is also very quiet. I read in the reviews that this was a quiet shredder, but I was actually amazed by how quiet it is. --Power. I view maximum sheet specifications as being something on the order of EPA gas mileage estimates, you are never going to see those results. As such I sort of have a 50% rule. The shredder spec is 14 sheets, I go with 7 to 9. It chomps right though 8 sheets of 20 pound paper with out even noticing. This is an 800% improvement over my old shredder and I don't have to wear ear protection. I don't know how well it will handle 14 sheets and I don't intend to find out, I am quite pleased with 8 sheets, why push the window. Duty Cycle. This shredder will outlast me. I used it for a half hour straight with no cooling problems. Occasionally the internal fan came on, but otherwise there was not a hint that it was overworked or overheated. It is rated for 2 hours of continuous duty. I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't make that. By using a lower sheet feed rate, I think this shredder could go well past 2 hours, but I have no proof of that. --Emergency Stop: Prominent on the front of the shredder is an illuminated stop button that allow you to rapidly stop the shredder if you overload it or worse got an article of clothing caught. If this thing grabs your necktie, you can stop it rapidly. The switch does have a bit of a negative in that it is very easy to bump if you are rapidly feeding a lot of little items. I just have to get the muscle memory to stay clear of the button. --Weight. This shredder only weighs 25 pounds. In my research I found many shredders with far less duty cycle that exceeded 30 pounds. One highly rated shredder was 39 pounds, and yet had a 30 minute duty cycle with a 40 minute cool down. --Bin Removal. The bin is on wheels and it rolls out easily. It has firm restraints, so the bin remains in place until you remove it. The Not So Positives: The Bin. While removing the bin from the shredder is quite easy, dumping it is not. For as well designed as the rest of this shredder is the bin is disappointing. Those nice firm restraining posts that keep the bin firmly inside the shredder are inside the front of the bin where the paper collects rather than on the outside at the edges. In the back of the bin there are posts to support the temporary CD shred collector bin. The front corners and window mounts have reinforcement struts. All these protrusions serve to resist the shredded paper from falling out of the bin while trying to dump it. I found as I filled a 30 gallon garbage bag that each successive emptying got more difficult trying to wrestle the paper out of the bin and keep the shreds in the bag. My solution is to keep two bags on hand. Dump the shredder bin into an empty 30 gallon bag, and then transfer the contents of that bag to another bag that you can easily fill up, so that you are always emptying the bin into an empty bag. Also I quickly decided my old habit of tamping down the shreds in the bin will not work with this shredder. I will level out the pile to the back but resist tamping, it just makes it that much harder to empty the bin. --Casters. The unit has small casters already installed. Oddly, they are unidirectional. The shredder moves sideways but if you try to pull it toward you or push away from you, the casters scrape against the floor giving a sensation that they will fail if you continue. If you need to move the shredder, steering requires you to pick up one side to get the casters off the floor, or scrape the casters along and hope for the best. I turned the shredder upside down and checked to make sure they were not locked swivel casters. Nope, all four casters are tiny fixed direction casters which will not work well on thick carpets. It kind of strikes me like those descriptions mathematicians use to explain 4 dimensional space, "flatland." This shredder travels well in the fictional one dimensional world of "Lenth-land." It is a very odd setup. I give this shredder 4 and a half stars. The casters and the difficulty emptying the bin are not that important to me compared to the great power, long duty cycle, and low noise level of this unit. Because I am still in the afterglow, I rounded up to 5 stars. ... show more

  • The company stands behind its warranty.
In November 2022, I made the unfortunate decision of purchasing a Bonsaii 240 Minutes 18 Sheet Paper 3S30 Shredder, hoping for a reliable and durable product. At first, it seemed like a great investment, but after just four months of use, the shredder completely stopped working. What a disappointment! Naturally, I reached out to the warranty department, expecting a prompt and efficient resolution to the issue. Little did I know that this would be the beginning of a frustrating and seemingly endless ordeal. On March 29, 2023, I initiated contact with the warranty department, clearly explaining the problem with the shredder. I emphasized that it had abruptly stopped working while I was in the middle of shredding a file. No lights, no sounds—it was completely lifeless. Hoping for a quick solution, I followed their instructions diligently. I sent them a video demonstrating my attempts to revive the shredder, including plugging it into the wall, turning on the power switch, and pressing the start button. Additionally, I provided all the requested information, such as serial numbers, manufacture dates, proof of purchase, and a shipping address for the replacement shredder. However, despite my efforts, it is now June 14, 2023, and I am still without a functioning shredder. Throughout the past few months, I have repeatedly reached out to the warranty department, only to be met with constant requests to troubleshoot the shredder. The infuriating part is that the shredder has absolutely no power—it will not turn on, no matter what I try. This entire experience has been an exercise in frustration, with the warranty department failing to deliver on their promises. It is deeply disheartening to see a company that initially appeared reputable and dependable turn out to be so unhelpful and unresponsive. I strongly caution anyone considering purchasing a Bonsaii product to think twice. If this is the level of customer service and quality they provide, it is not worth the risk. I sincerely regret my decision to buy the Bonsaii 240 Minutes 18 Sheet Paper Shredder, and I hope this review serves as a warning to others. Save yourself the trouble and look for a more reliable brand that stands behind their products and offers satisfactory customer support. UPDATE - 07-13-2023 Today I received a replacement shredder. I honestly had given up on getting a replacement. It is the exact model and is shredding away. I have adjusted my review to four stars. The shredder worked great when it worked. The long replacement delay has kept me from giving it five stars. If this one stops working I will update my review again. ... show more

  • Smoothly multiple sheets, envelopes, staples and CDs
Size: 12 Sheet-6 0Mins
I researched quite a bit before purchasing this shredder. It exceeds my expectations. I was able to completely shred (into very small pieces, not strips) every thing I loaded into it. You can choose auto or manual, forward or reverse and CD vs paper. It runs for longer than the product description says without shutting off due to over heating which was important to me. There is an over heat or over load light to warn you but I never needed that. Zips through documents of different lengths in seconds! Great for high security items. The ( detachable) wheels are a plus. It just glides over to where I want to use it then tucks nicely out of the way. Small profile but the waste bucket handled a lot. I shredded a filled medium storage bin in one sitting. Just tap it once in a while and you'll get even more below the fill line. Empty and get back at it. Great for home or home office needs. ... show more
