Ok…. First off I was concerned that the seeds were no good because they’re past date. But I figured I’d give it a go, if nothing else I would get a nice wooden box from it. I did 3 seeds for each tree and almost all of them sprouted! Only one black spruce and one Brazilian rosewood. The blue spruce and flame tree had a 100% success rate for me… and I still have more seeds to sprout! The little sacks are great, they have a drainage hole and are perfect size for little saplings. The disk potting media is also great! I had some left over afterwards. Which I really appreciate because I’m clumsy and the extra would have carried me. The instructions are perfect. They are on the back of the seed packet AND you get a little booklet with the instruction information. Again great if you’re prone to misplacing things. The wood box is amazing too. Currently my saplings are growing in there. Once they grow out I will use this box for seed storage. Im so happy I bought this kit. I will be buying it as a gift for my sister this Xmas! I highly recommend this kit. Only “downside” is that the flame tree grows QUICK… they seem to go from just sprouting to 4” over night. I had to separate them. Which unfortunately did kill one of them. I would also recommend getting wire to start training when you buy this kit. They grow fast and they harden quick as well.     • Amazing Company with Wonderful Support for Customers!!!!
I bought this set of bonsai seeds as a treat for my family. I followed all the directions, including the directions on the company's site. 17 days later and not one seed has sprouted!!! I reached out to the company to complain and I received a wonderful response from their customer service!! Nikki in customer service asked me to send a picture of my setup. At first, I thought this was odd. But it is truly because they want to help customers out with their questions. I provided Nikki with some pictures and information about my setup for the seeds. She responded quickly with so much helpful advice and encouragement!!! Now, I see that my frustration in the beginning was a simple case of impatience!!! These seeds take TIME!!! Later, I had many healthy starts to almost every type of bonsai seed they sent me. I continued to reach out to Garden Republic for advice. Follow what they tell you... it works!!! The two types of seeds that didn't sprout... they sent me replacement seeds for these. I absolutely would purchase again. I plan to purchase some of their kits for gifts for family, friends and my children's teachers. I purchased my spouse one of these bonsai kits for us both to plant bonsai and him to place on his desk at work to shape it. We will both transplant bonsai to a larger pot when it needs it. He was impressed with this lovely kit. He soaked one of the tree seeds on New Year's Eve and we both planted it on New Year's day. It sprouted after 7 days and is doing great, but still too small for him to place on his desk at work. We like there are four of these. We started small with one but like we can add another if we choose to and display the box and save the seeds. RATHER THAN THIN, we just planted one in the pot and that is the reason I gave the kit 4 stars, since it recommended planting all the seeds at once. Later we may plant another seed in this pot so it has a companion; we are still thinking about that and wondering if it should be the same type tree or different, but we will do the best we can. Bonsai is a thinking type of project and being married already for several decades I thought he was mature enough to handle this and think about how our marriage, he to I, will continue to improve.-Julie Sands ... show more

I've been gardening off and on for many years, and bonsai had always been on the bucket list, so I decided it was time to give it a try. I'm just starting out...in fact, only a couple weeks in. So far I've had 5 of the 8 species germinate. Unfortunately, my progress has become halted a bit because of a fungus gnats issue (Realized I had overwatered a different plant I've had for some time. Not doing that again) So, while I got my seedlings, which are doing great,, all those that hadn't grown yet had to be tossed. So I'm starting over with the seeds I have left. I was going to hold this review off a bit longer but I've had such a pleasant and refreshing experience with the customer service of this company, that I felt they deserved my support now. The best customer service I've ever received, actually. As for the product, all the seeds I received were in great shape, and as I mentioned earlier, was getting a great germination rate considering I didn't stratify those that needed to be, although I am now, just to be safe. I feel more patient now that I have seedlings to take care of...lol They give you enough seeds that you can actually try planting some, and preparing some, if you'd like. Some of the other sellers didn't seem to offer a good amount of seeds, which is partially why I chose this company. I order off Amazon quite a bit, and with all the companies out there, it can truly be hit or miss. Kinda feel like I hit the jackpot, in terms of the company I chose to purchase from. This whole bonsai thing has got me geeked out...harnessing the wonder and awe of our giant wooden friends, but in a pot....not to mention getting to observe their growth from seed. The whole thing is just pretty cool, imo. I hope your experience is as good as mine has been so far, in this short time frame (minus the gnats). ... show more
