Top Amazon Reviews

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The overall reviews of the Great Divide Tripod Head are mixed. Users appreciate its compactness, and versatility - as it can be added to tripods of other brands. Although some users found the product great for their uses, there are several complaints about the construction, the issue with the locking mechanism, and its questionable stability.

Pros

  • 🌐 Universal compatibility with standard 3/8 stem tripods.
  • 📏 Compactness is appreciated for easy portability.
  • 👌 Some users found it to be working well with their setup.

Cons

  • 🔧 Poor construction quality mentioned by a few, especially regarding the clips that hold the legs and the head's tilt lock mechanism.
  • ⚖️ Issues with stability, particularly in windy conditions.
  • 🧩 Some users had to use additional washers or file down parts for proper fitting.
  • 🔒 Inadequate locking mechanism leading to potential slippage.

Should I Buy It?

If you are seeking a tripod that is compact and compatible with several other brands, this product may suit your needs. However, if construction quality and absolute stability are your foremost considerations, the mixed reviews suggest you may want to look at additional options.

  • awesome head, but not for any tripod
Style: Great Divide Tripod Head
i should have read better, because i bought this to replace my clamp head on my bog tripod. this does not replace that, it instead screws on to most typical tripod legs. i happened to have an old manfrotto around, so i was still able to use it. only reason for using this thing over the bog clamo head tripod is that i have a chassis with built in arca and i wanted to have something quicker to setup/takedown. it is built well, but you need to get a set of legs stout enough for whatever rifle you are gonna mount on it. ... show more

  • Practical tool.
Style: Great Divide Tripod Head
Lightweight, easy to use, and small for all applications using a tripod for binoculars and spotting scope. You’ll need to buy the bog base accessory.

  • Gun clamp
Style: DeathGrip UltraLite Head Combo
Definitely heavier than I thought it would be, but it seems like it should serve its purpose. This coupled with the mount that is on my primos trigger stick worked good. I won’t be trekking it deep into the woods, but maybe have to drag it half a mile which should be fine. Just playing with it in the house it seems like it will clamp and hold my gun without issue. I’ll give update when I shoot with it enough to determine if this combo is good ... show more

  • Do not purchase
Style: Great Divide Tripod
Bought this product at the time reviews were great. It seemed sturdy and light weight. Also purchased the death grip. Turned out to be a waste of my money. And know I’m stuck with a $250 paper weight and it broke my bore sighter. First use was on a hunting trip broke first day I used it. Was stuck for ret of week trip with no tripod. Then they sent new part to replace broken. That piece broke. The then just sent me a new tripod. I went to use it to sight my rifle fresh out of the box. The screw pell out and dropped my rifle and broke my bore sighter. More money it cost me. Bog now says they can’t do anything because I bought it off Amazon and not direct from them. Will never purchase from bog again ... show more

Style: Great Divide Tripod Head
This pan and tilt is easy to use and durable. I added this to a tripod I have to give smooth pan and tilt.

  • Good quality!
Style: Great Divide Tripod Head
This is durable and works great on the bog pod. I use it in hot summer weather as well as very sub zero temperatures in the dead of winter.

  • Serious Design Issues
Style: Great Divide Tripod Head
This is a review for the Great Divide Tripod Head. I purchased this item because I do photography and I have an older Manfrotto tripod that I take on outdoor adventures and do not mind it getting dusty/broken. So, instead of purchasing another tripod, I opted to go for the Great Divide + Deathgrip Ultralite as BOG is now offering them separate from the tripod. The Great Divide can screw onto the standard 3/8 stem found on the majority of tripods on market, so plus for that. The items below are where it falls short. 1) The Great Divide Head as is out of the box does not fit with the BOG Deathgrip Ultra. Both the Great Divide and Deathgrip use an Arca Swiss connector, which is a sliding dovetail with one side that tightens and clamps it down. The Great Divide is the tail (female) side and the Deathgrip is the pin (male) side. The tightening screw on the Great Divide is too short for tightening the Great Divide to the Deathgrip. Mind you, these are both BOG products. I ended up having to file down the Arca Swiss connector on both the Great Divide and Deathgrip to bare aluminum/magnesium for the plate to lock into place. I will be testing the combo with a 300 Win Mag and a high pressure 45-70 load to see if it holds. If it holds, great. If it breaks, whatever, it'll go back to Amazon. BOG to fix: Use a longer screw for tightening the dovetail on the Great Divide or have tighter tolerances on your coating/casting. 2) The tilt lock is not strong enough and the knob is too small. I am not sure if this is as intended or a manufacturing flaw. When the tilt lock is tightened as far as it will go, the head will still tilt forwards and backwards with little effort. I am going to write this off as "as designed" in order to absorb/react to recoil. Also the tension knobs for tilt and pan are way too small. I can only fit the knob between the pad of my thumb and the middle phalanx (finger bone) of my index finger. BOG to fix: Provide a larger knob for a larger grip area, for use when wearing gloves. 3) The 3/8 and 1/4 adapter plate is garbage. The 3/8 adapter is a bushing which threads onto the 1/4 stem and it has a lip which causes the binocular/scope to sit high on the plate resulting in wobble. I will use my normal photography ball head for attaching to binos/scopes. You can see the lip on their product photos. BOG to fix: Use a textured hard rubber on your base plate instead of a hard foam. The hard foam allows almost no friction to the optic. The rubber on the adapter plate will give isometric force to the optic and will not come unscrewed. I can run the Deathgrip on my photography heads using the 1/4 tap on the Deathgrip, I just did not want to risk damage to my ball heads. I paid $22 for the Great Divide and I am not impressed with the fit and finish of this item. I wanted to try something that would allow me to stabilize long shots from a fixed position in the field. I have used sand bags, backpacks, lead sled, shooting sticks, monopods, and a Rhodesian sling. Each has a different purpose, none will allow standing shots with the stability that BOG markets. I will keep this until it breaks but I will not purchase a replacement. ... show more

  • not what they say in the adds
Style: Great Divide Tripod
The head just starts spinning and will not stay in the desired position. When tilted just fall off the main tube. Piece of junk. It is just 7 months old and the BOG doesn't want to honor the warranty. They say if bought from Amazon they are not liable. Amazon will not reimburse due to out of return terms. Totaly disappointed. Please take notes and know your options. ... show more
