I replace my Pure 411 filters every 6 months, even if the red replacement light is not "on" because I have found I do notice the difference on early replacement. I leave these running 24/7 and wash the out cover once a week. Big tip. If you replace early, like me, turn off your Blue 411, then when you turn it on hold the power button until the white ring flashes on and off and you will have reset the timer so it knows a new filter has been installed. ... show more

    • Horrible smell.
This is my second filter, the first came with the unit. I read a lot of complaints about an odor. Being a long-standing Blueair customer I thought it odd as never had this happen other than a slight “vanilla smell” from carbon. Well, a few weeks after installing this second filter, it emits a pungent odor like glue. Plan on contacting Blueair as well. ... show more

I've been thrilled with it. I live in a condo complex and my new neighbor below me sits in the unit chain smoking and running the a/c to force the smoke into my unit.     • Non-descript, works quickly, very quiet.
About the sound: The first level is near-silent. We leave it on this setting almost all the time. The second level is noticeable, but just barely. If your environment is particularly quiet, it may seem loud. In our apartment, we have slept with it on the second level a few times. The third level, however.... it's not quiet. If you have heard the small white-noise machines in doctors' offices, it's similar. It's not annoying, but I am a light sleeper and could not have this in my bedroom. My boyfriend said it wasn't great but that he could probably sleep through it as an average-to-heavy sleeper. We use this setting occasionally while we are at work - can't hear it there! We purchased this after our apartment was filled with smoke when a neighboring unit caught fire. We thought the smell had gone away, until we returned from a Thanksgiving overnight stay. Turns out, our apartment air still smelled bad. We took a risk and bought this air purifier. After a few days, we noticed an improvement in general air quality, but were unsure if it was a placebo effect. About a week after we started using the air purifier, we had friends over for board games and they remarked that they couldn't smell any smoke, or anything.     • Unfortunately, These filters have chemical smell.
Unfortunately, I have gone through 3 filters and they all emit chemical smell. I tried running the purifier for 48 hours as suggested but the smell persist. I end up having to open all the windows to air out the house to remove the smell. I did this with each of the filters. I give two stars because customer service is responsive and replaced the filter. Unfortunately, the replacement has same issue. Not wanting to give up I bought another replacement filter. Same issue! I now have a useless purifier as I bought this at the beginning of pandemic and did not want to go out and return. ... show more

    • Unit failed to operate after the new filter was installed
Warning: Do not purchase this air filter unit. If I could give it zero star, I would. I purchased 2 of these units about 15 months ago. I did not purchased the extended warranty that apparently offers benefits after the 1-yr mfr. warranty expires. I replaced the filter twice on each unit. Unfortunately, the second time I replaced the filter on one of the units, it no longer operated. At first, BlueAir said they would send a replacement unit to me, but they rescinded that offer, perhaps after realizing I had not purchased the extended warranty. They referred me to a local small appliance repair company, as they have closed their repair shop because of COVID. I have called 4 local repair shops, none of which services this type of appliance. It is now trash - on its way to filling up the landfill. If I replace this non-functioning unit, my replacement will be another brand. ... show more

    • Exactly what I needed
We have been running the Blue Pure filter in two homes in a row now, for beyond six months. The filter light finally came on, so bought this to swap it out. The old one held a ton of dust, we had cleaned the pre-filter a couple times, but I am still impressed with just how much this captured. The new one was pretty easy to slip back on and get it running again. Had to consult the manual on how to reset the device after the swap, but minutes later it was back to work. A little pricey but worth it to keep the sleeping area cleaner from airborne dust. ... show more
