I often help my wife check out and work and identify bottlenecks at commercial cleaning accounts before we turn them over to our employees. We have used a lot of different vacuum cleaners under many and varied conditions. Commercial vacuums take a beating, and what seems like a strength can sometimes end up being an Achilles heel. In mixed spaces with carpet, hard floors, stairwells and dusting, this vacuum is a pleasure to use. It's light and versatile. In a single motion, you can pull the quick draw suction tube to vacuum crumbs out of an executive chair and a second later, have it back in place to continue vacuuming the commercial carpet. For other than dedicated wide-area cleaning, we won't even look at a vacuum cleaner without single-motion suction hose availability btw. Carpet and bare floor performance are very good. The brush roll is very effective. The height adjustment comes in handy for the occasional domestic rental unit cleaning where you usually see deeper pile carpets. Suction measures a respectable 60" of water on my gauge. I don't own a digital mass flow sensor, but the airflow is plenty to achieve fast effective cleaning. It works well on deeply textured commercial walk-in mats, always a challenge. It's relatively quiet in operation and bag changes are quick and easy. The two-stage handle adjustment makes it easy to raise the front of the vacuum when desired although it does add a step when you want to lower it flat. Overall, I consider it a plus. The most surprising feature is the thank-you we often hear from our workers when we replace a far more expensive vacuum with this one. At this price, we often dedicate one to a floor or area. My wife and I have fought over who gets to use a far more expensive commercial vacuum with impressive on-paper specs and who gets the cheap little Bissell that weighs 10 pounds less. For applications requiring HEPA filtration, such filters are available as an inexpensive (<$10) retrofit. We use those inexpensive multi-ply bags from Clean Fairy and have noticed that the motor prefilters rarely need cleaning. The design engineers at Bissell hit several sweet spots with this tough, light, versatile general-purpose upright. We don't use them in all our accounts because one size never fits all, but it's always on our short list of choices. ... show more

Purchased this vacuum based on the reviews, price point, and brand. Also needed a model with hose/hand tools. Very easy to put together and is sturdy. This vacuum gets daily++ use in a high traffic retail setting and so far is holding up well and does a good job with our very low pile commercial carpet. The hand tools work as expected and are great for cleaning baseboards, tight corners and hard to reach areas. ... show more

My Oreck bit the dust and I was going to order that brand again but wanted some features it didn’t have. I definitely did not want a bagless vacuum so my new purchase had to include bag, as well as being able to adjust for various carpet levels and wood floor. This Bissel is perfect! Very easy to put together, absolutely love how wide of an area the vacuum covers rather than my smaller, previous vacuum. The adjustment feature is key. I honestly expected more from a Bissell commercial vacuum cleaner. First, the suction power is horrible. It blew more dust around than it sucked up. The vacuum power through the extension hose was equally horrible - barely any suction at all. The vacuum seem to be cheaply made - the vacuum bag cover is just a snap-on piece of plastic. When you use the extension hose, the floor part of the vacuum pumps dust out of the hole that the hose rests on when not in use. This is because the vacuum routes dust from the floor through the extension hose during use as a floor vacuum. There is no shutoff on the floor part of the vacuum when you use the extension hose, so dust from the floor just flies into the air. Summary: While this vacuum is lightweight, it is a lightweight piece of crap. DO NOT PURCHASE. Too much trouble to return this vacuum, so it's going straight to the landfill. This is not the Bissell of yesterday. It is made of VERY soft plastic components. The handle flexes easily as you move the vacuum cleaner around while vacuuming. It does not feel like it's going to snap off but flex it does very obviously. When I changed the bag the 1st time, taking off the bag compartment cover revealed even more very flexible parts. It is definitely not made with the very durable heavier more rigid plastics found on vacuum cleaners years ago. And DEFINITELY no durable metal sub framing like oh say back in the old days. (1970's for example). The extension hose is flexible and does not fight you when using the extension tube and Crevis tool. That is a plus. Changing the filter bag is a snap. Having a filter bag was one of the primary reasons I purchased this specific upright Bissell. So many vacuums don't have this, and I am utterly exhausted with all the cleaning it takes to keep my Die son cordless and my Jaws robot vacuums clean. This one I swap bags and go right on vacuuming. No need to wash all the filters like in most canister vacs. /What a Pain in the arce! So, in conclusion, it's not likely to last decades, nor is it built or priced to. Does it work?
