It can also scrub hard floors in small tight areas, and it buffs and cleans hardwood floors. The cost efficient way to clean large carpeted areas is to first remove the spots and stains with the BGFS5000 portable scrubber, and then go over the entire area with a box style carpet Extractor, without having to worry about cleaning the heavily stained spots. The portable scrubber comes with a set of white carpet brushes to start with, and other accessories are sold separately. Comes with a 1 year warranty on parts and labor. I bought this not only because it’s a Bissell, but because it says that it cleans concrete floors. What I didn’t realize is that it doesn’t suck the dirty water back up, it’s just left on the floor (useless), it’s heavy and was impossible for me and my husband to control.     • Good homeowner floor scrubber...
BiSSEll BigGreen BGFS5000 Portable Two Brush Floor Scrubber & Polisher Given so many low customer ratings for this machine, we were apprehensive about buying one. As it turned out, our machine has none of the problems cited by so many others. Perhaps Bissell’s Chinese manufacturer redesigned a few parts to work better? - machine is a virtual clone of the Sears floor cleaner that we owned and loved for 25 years (which eventually failed – and no parts are available for it). - the brand new BFGS500 arrived fully assembled with all parts (all of the listed pads and the pad clips). There’s nothing to do except remove the plastic wrap and cardboard – and use it. - these new models no longer require a customer to install a “switch box” that so many complained about. An on/off switch is built-in. It’s only one speed, but we only used “high” on that old Sears scrubber. - the 8-notch brushes snap (with a firm push) securely onto the hub at the machine’s bottom. For spare stiff brushes, search Amazon on “Koblenz 6 Inch Scrub Brushes with 8 Notch Hub 4502332" - the liquid container on our machine is fine. It doesn’t leak and it snaps into the machine’s chrome post, lining up perfectly with the slot on the open-close controller. - the 35' cord should be sufficiently long for most jobs – it’s almost too long for us. - we bought it to clean our Azek deck – much easier than cleaning by hand. - negatives ... some of the plastic parts should be thicker / stronger – such as the green liquid container cover (reads “Heavy duty - commercial”) – that part is fragile. ... machine will tip over backwards, so it has to be held onto or rested on something. ... OK for occasional homeowner use, but no way is this a “commercial” quality machine. It wouldn’t last. ... avoid buying a “used” machine. New is better, will have fewer issues, and will last longer. ... show more

I unboxed it and went right to work. I screwed on a plastic flapper on the bottom so they wouldn’t spit off any of the solution to the walls. But otherwise a great machine

I ended up sending this back. The machine does not stay up by itself, its heavy and just did not do the job i expected it to do. I have had Bissell products before but this one just did not stand up to the job.

    • EH, I expected a better quality machine for what it cost me.
Pros. It does its job with a little tinkering and jerking around. Cons. Unit doesn't look like it will last more then a month. I think Bissel spent 32 seconds on R&D with this thing. It actually looks like my wife put it together. Its cocked to the side, the fluid dispensing lever doesn't work , I have to pull the cable to get the cleaner to dispense fluid instead of the actual level that's "designed" to do it. Honestly , if it was priced at $19.99? I would buy it and not complain. This heavy price tag for the junk I received is deplorable. ... show more

    • What a relief
I have all white tile on my floors. Very hard to keep the grout nice and clean . Cleans GREAT and is fast and easy to use. This has a good weight for use, and the brushes do a great job. Only complaint is that the trigger attachment to regulate the flow of cleaning water has to be Checked regularly it is poorly made and will allow a leak or wont dispense properly. Not that big of a deal once I identified the reason for the problem I was having. ... show more

    • Did we get a refurbished model?
We will be working with Bissel to see if we can resolve this, but so far this is not working and it looks like we will need to return it. The directions are really unclear and it looks like steps 1-4 were already completed, so I suspect that this is not a new machine - perhaps one that was returned as damaged. The tank will not hold water, the mechanism that would release the water is constantly in the open position. No matter if we fill it and try to then attach the tank, or if we fill it when it is attached, the solution just pours out. We reviewed some YouTube videos to see if we were doing something wrong, but the issue seems to be with the tank. It is very disappointing that we would pay so much money and get a used machine. ... show more
