Just received this Arca Swiss compatible ball head. I recently purchased a moderately priced carbon fiber travel tripod. As I anticipated, the included ball head left something to be desired. Quality and security not up to the level I want securing my expensive gear. Took a chance and bought the Benro low profile ball head for a few hundred dollars less than top of the line brand names. On first blush, the build quality is high and feels very solid, in spite of the relatively light weight. Lighter is what I wanted for the travel tripod. The adjustments knobs operate very smoothly and lock the ball head securely without having to crank down hard. Metal knobs are easy to grab and provide sure grip for adjustments. Quick test with my camera and long telephoto resulted in no creeping of head position once I locked down the ball. Overall, I’d recommend this for consideration if your in the market for a new or additional ball head. Addendum: after using the ball head now for several months, I have to note that the ball head is not quite as secure as I originally noted. It can slip with higher weight lenses, such as 70-200 mm zoom. It can be tightened to better secure the lens/camera, but requires some energy to tighten it sufficiently to remain in a stable position. I have 40 years of experience as a photographer. After having used for years a manfrotto 498, large, heavy, somewhat rough in its main movement, with a maximum load of 8 kilograms, I discovered this little wonder, a fraction of the size and weight of the manfrotto and which claims to support up to 30 kilograms . In relation to the previous comment, I agree that with a long and heavy lens and tilting the camera, you have to adjust hard, not a big deal. On the other hand, I do not agree with the "negative" comment about the rotation of the head. A quarter turn is enough to loosen it and the twist is fluid but with gentle resistance. The possibility of double rotation, both in the base and in the camera platform is a clever move, which allows you to easily level the camera even if the tripod is not. I am really very satisfied with the change of head that I made, and I recommend it without reservation. ... show more
