  • Not just for sheep!
Size: One set of blade
I have Katahdin hair sheep-- or so I thought. But one of my ewes just refused to shed out, so I figured I may have ended up with some wool sheep genetics in there. Since she was really the only one who needed shearing, I didn't want to pay a fortune for shears. These were inexpensive (in my opinion), well-made, and very sharp! I had tried to use standard horse clippers to get through her wool, and no way! But these clippers went through her matted wool like a hot knife through butter. I didn't shear her all the way down (since it was my first time doing this) but I did get the majority of her wool off. She seemed much more comfortable. Only thing I don't like about these shears is they are quite heavy in weight and LOUD! I made sure to turn them on and let them run a few moments before approaching the ewe. She was a bit freaked out at first, but then settled into eating her grain. During and after use I sprayed with Cool Lube and also oiled the clippers as directed. Not terribly hard to take apart and clean, but make sure you get the bottom blade screws tight, or when you turn it on, they fly off (oops!). The next "victim" was one of our barn dogs. She has a heavy coat that gets matted and develops what I call "mudlocks" under her belly--horse clippers did not work. With great care, I shaved her butt, underside of her tail, and her belly the best I could reach. She was not good about it, so it was like shearing a bucking rodeo bull. I only accidentally poked her once with a bottom blade tooth, as she was jumping around trying to get free. I was careful to not shave her all the way down, didn't want the bottom blade (which can get a bit hot) to touch her skin. After, to show her contempt for my shave job, she plopped down in a big mud puddle. The thanks I get! Overall, I like these shears and hope they will last a long time. ... show more

  • Works! but dulls fast
Size: Two sets of blade
5 Stars for price and quality!! Here's a picture of the first sheep I ever sheered with Beetro Shears. 4 Stars on "Sheerness" because the blades dull and gum up rather quickly. BUT they cleaned and sharpened up very easily by taking off the blade from the "chicken feet" and running a file along the vertical, scissor like top blade on each side. I did not file the flat blade-to-blade part because I think that would misalign and ruin it. Also they do heat up fast so I would just touch the smooth bottom of the blades to my skin and when they would burn, I stood the sheep up and waited for the the shears to cool. Slower that way, but for my farm slower is better than paying thousands for professional shears! I sheared 4 Shetland Sheep! On the second sheep the blade was dull (and so was I to not figure that out) so the job was worse. Then I switched blades and the third sheep went very well. Then on my fourth sheep I decided to try filing the blade and it worked well! ... show more

  • Good Shears
Size: One set of blade
I am just learning to shear, so these were a bit bulky and hard to handle while holding a sheep, but overall they worked pretty well!

  • Very Nice, but scary
Size: One set of blade
Order this, very solid and it does what is intended too. But you will need to be strong and very careful. It is scary to use (for me).

  • Quality quality quality
Size: Three sets of blade
These shears are tough. I purchased them to shave my Australian Shepard, it takes FOREVER with regular shears. What would take me at least an hour took 15 minutes with these. Make SURE you oil them throughout the shaving process so they don’t get hot. They shave right down to the naked skin so be carful not to go too deep. Highly recommend ... show more

  • Priced Appropriately
Size: One set of blade
I bought this to shear a single pet sheep. I had had him professionally shorn the last few years. The clippers are not perfect but I did my research, clipped my wether with several breaks to prevent overheating and frequently oiled. The clippers did require a little tinkering to find the right settings but once I found them the work went quickly. Pros- clippers were simply to figure out and adjust as needed Cons- blades struggled to cut some of the dirtier areas ... show more

  • Worked Well on Alpacas
Size: Two sets of blade
The media could not be loaded. We purchased these shears and a 17 tooth blade separately to shear our alpacas, as beginners. We used clippers last year, and it was a disaster. We needed a heavier duty shear and this handled great! It did get pretty hot even with the kool lube spray, so we used the time to trim toe nails, apply ivermectin, and apply mite preventative while we waited for the shears to cook on three occasions. As novices, we went on the medium speed and it took about 45 minutes to finish shearing one alpaca, but this included the toe nails, injection, and spray. Very satisfied with the results and quality! If you’re a novice, definitely buy the 17 tooth blade, to prevent cutting your animal. ... show more
