  • Good for the price, with limitations: check carefully to see if it will meet your needs
This product assembles easily out of well-made parts, with only a few perplexities and pinch points, and when assembled it's more than solid enough to fulfil its clear purpose: lowering the risk of falls around a bed. But because of liability risk, it's forced to perform a legal twister dance, and to incorporate extra features that few people are likely to use, in my opinion. The bed rail comes in white-enameled sections that snap together with spring-loaded detents. Other joints use a similar assembly method but with external clips that push bars in from the outside. One frame member, a U-shaped tube, didn't insert very easily into its receiver and created possible pinch points during assembly, as one might try pushing in the detent at the same time as knocking in the tube with your free hand, which could easily result in nipping your skin. The precautions few may be likely to heed include: (1) instructions to screw part of the frame into your wooden bed frame using provided 2" wood screws, (2) a long nylon strap that secures the frame to your bed frame by wrapping around both, and (3) a disclaimer saying the bed rail is NOT designed to stop people from falling out of bed—which was my very motivation for testing it! Assembling and adjusting the frame and slipping the U-shaped tongue under the mattress, however, it felt entirely secure, helped along in my case by direct contact between the beefy rubber feet and the floor. Sliding seems unlikely, but if experience teaches me otherwise I will add the nylon strap. Like any safety item, it should be checked periodically. This product is not a substitute for a full-length bed rail, but, strategically positioned to stop the torso from falling, it makes a substantial contribution to safety and provides a cue that you are near the edge of the bed. "Bed cane" is an apt description: it amounts to a broad two-legged cane, with hefty rubber feet to prevent slipping and an under-mattress extension to prevent tipping. It's a good value, well-designed and constructed and fully functional. If you really need full length bed rails though, it's not the right product. ... show more

  • Great Support for My Mom’s Safety
These bed rails have really given me peace of mind. My 81-year-old mom lives with me now, and she uses the rails not just to get in and out of bed but also to turn over safely. The stability is excellent—it's built with strong metal and extra support legs. Plus, the adjustable design lets me customize it to her needs. Easy to assemble, and the ergonomic handle is a great feature for her to grip. It’s been a huge help for both her mobility and my peace of mind. ... show more

  • Easy to install; easily adjustable
This bed rail is adjustable for the height of the bed. The metal crossbar extends 2/3 of the way across a twin size bed and fits under the mattress or box spring. The strap that holds it in place is very wide and durable with a large plastic buckle. The strap is long enough to reach around a king size bed. That makes this versatile enough regardless of what size bed you have. The assembly is rather easy. The legs have thick rubber feet that help to protect the floor from scrapes. The top bar has a thick, cushioned pad for comfortable grabbing and positioning in the bed. ... show more

  • Very helpful
The bed rail was easy to assemble and install. The flat tubing that goes under the mattress is nice—hard to detect from on top. In our case, we put it between a box spring and a full mattress, which is light. It allowed a bit of unwanted motion, but couldn’t be screwed down. Fortunately, it came with webbing, which was easy to install and really stabilized the rail. I’ve watched my dad use it frequently and reflexively, though he seems not to notice that he does. We adjusted the height to approximately the same height as a walker. It makes for easy transfers. ... show more

  • Doesn't work with my bed type without some kind of “fiz”
I usually start with the pros but this time I’ll do the cons first. Cons: 1. The legs are about two inches too short to work with my bed (see pic) without putting something under them. I guess I could have anticipated this problem, but didn’t, because I am not a mechanical thinker. My bed is structured so that the thick foam mattress sits a few inches down in a “well” created by the head and foot boards and the deep side rails. So there is no way to slide the “U-bar” under the mattress, I had to put it under my memory foam mattress topper. Now the legs are too short to reach the floor. If I wanted to use this rail I’d either have to get a cheap metal bed frame or cut a hole in the side of my mattress and then keep slicing a slit into the foam. We have a nice wooden bed frame and thankfully the benefit of the mattress going down into the frame is that it doesn’t slide off the bed. 2. I think this issue could have easily been pointed out in the listing, I am sure many other people have a bed similar to mine. Or they could make the leg inserts taller maybe? Pointing it out in the description will save some people from having to return it. The seller had a picture of it installed in place with a bed and I looked at that, but didn’t remember how our bed frame worked. I bet 9 people out of 10 couldn’t tell you (without looking) if their mattress sits in a similar “well” created by the frame. Pros: 1. This bed rail is very sturdy and well constructed and goes together easily and quickly. The listing even has a video showing someone assembling it, and it came with good written instructions. 2. The legs are adjustable. 3. A handy pocket comes with it for hanging on the rail part, useful for storing magazines, phone, etc. 4. It has a durable coat of paint on the steel, looks easy to clean. ... show more
