Description

The BAKFlip MX4 was the first matte-finished, hard folding cover to market, becoming America’s 1 Selling Hard Folding Cover in just a few years. Simply put, the MX4 just looks better than other covers. Its sleek no-profile appearance allows you to maintain the appearance of your truck, while enabling you to securely stow cargo in the bed. The MX4’s pioneering, textured matte- finish adds a premium look and feel while also protecting against UV damage, annoying finger print marks, and scratches. MX4 has everything you expect from a premium cover. The engineers at BAK Industries fine-tuned even the smallest elements of the cover, down to adding cab corner caps and rail-end cap, to extending a matte-finish throughout the cover’s side rails, clamps, and elevator bolts. The MX4’s integrated buckle system and automatic latching mechanism allows you to drive with the cover partially or fully opened without covering the 3rd brake light. For 100% bed access, simply unlock the cover from either side via its pull latches and fold the cover all the way up against the cab. From there, you can prop the cover in place by tightening two rods into the underside of the panel. For enhanced durability, the MX4 also features pre-molded, shock-absorbent bumpers on either side of the panel, protecting the folded panels from hitting the cover during turbulent driving. I did a lot of research before settling on this cover. As with most things, you see people who had problems and people who have had none. Here are my overall observations. * I did get a little water infiltration after a hard rain, but haven't made any adjustments since I installed it, so the leak could be my fault. * Installation is pretty easy. I did it myself in a Ram 1500 crew cab with the 5'7" bed--no RamBox. It maybe took 30 minutes, some of which was spent watching a YouTube installation video. * It looks great. * I love that you can open and close the tailgate with the cover closed. * I've had it in the folded position, going 70mph on the interstate and it held up fine. Only a small bit pokes out from behind the cab of the truck to catch the wind. I will note, though, that had I not had the digital rear view mirror (there's a camera in my third brake light that projects to my mirror) I would not have been able to see through the back window with the cover folded upright. * The cover gets very hot in direct sunlight. I especially found this out during installation. Might want to park in the shade while installing. I can't speak to customer service, etc..., but will try to keep this review updated since this is a high-ticket item and people like me want to get all the information they can before committing. I wasn't sure how to rate the value for the money, but since few of these covers are cheap, it felt like I am getting a well-made product at a cost comparable to other brands. Follow up after several months of use. I've had it parked in and driven during some hard rains and had very minimal to no water infiltration. I will note that when it's parked outside at our house, it is on a slight incline, such that the tailgate is lower than the cab, so that could conceivably make it less likely for water to get into the bed area? This is my sencond bakflip cover and probably not my last. Install was super easy. Took me a couple hours in the garage and the fit is excellent. In my opinion, it's one of the best looking covers on the market. I do have some water get in around the tailgate occasionally but other than that it does an excellent job keeping the water out. ... show more

Watched the YouTube on install - the printed directions are good, but seeing in done makes it simpler. Box arrived in rough shape - thank you UPS - contents were well packaged and not damaged. I may grouse about discarding the packing material, but its better that than having to return. Fit was perfect for a 2019 Ram 1500 - drains duct thru holes pre-punched in the Ram - no grommet to drill. Rained hard last night & its dry inside. Need a few sunny days for the gaskets to warm up and return to flat. I like that this cover allows full bed access - and that its light/simple to remove. Its also visually appealing in that its nearly flush with truck bed and in the matte black, you have to walk-up closer to actually see it. Very nice product. I did chose to buy through Amazon vs direct - it was a few dollars more, but I wanted the Amazon backing of being able to return. Packaged well seller to prevent damage during shipping. Extremely easy 40 minute install. Opens and closes with ease. Flush fit on bed makes it look really nice. Covering the bed has increased my gas mileage. Went through car wash and no leaks with the exception on each side of where the tailgate has minor gap on each side, small amount of water dripped down. This is not the fault of the tonneau cover, it’s a design issue with Ram. Probably could seal it with a small piece of weather stripping. I researched many brands and found Bakflip MX4 to be superior. Highly recommended it for 2022 Ram 1500. Also, delivery from the seller was a day earlier than anticipated.     • Perfect fit, solid protection - will buy this brand again.
First, make sure you order The right one. This amazon listing had reviews and photos for 2020 Ram 1500 with ram box... but it is not the right one for that. The review was on wrong item, so I was mislead and had to return the item. I went to the BAKFlip site and found right one. That said, the return was simple and free, and my refund was posted about a week later. Once you get the right model for your vehicle (use the BAKFlip sight to identify right model). You will be happy with this product. I have had it 3 weeks and it’s awesome. I installed alone within an hour. Extra hands would be nice. WATCH VIDEO - it’s way more useful than instructions. Also be sure you get the instruction addendum for your model vehicle if it has one - that part is actually helpful. My model for 2020 Ram 1500 w/Rambox came with rails that slide onto manufacturer’s t-slot rail system - so simple and perfect fit! Be sure to fully coat t-slot surface with liquid/foaming soap to help rail slide easily on. Otherwise it slides partially on and then gets stuck and hard to move either direction. Very well engineered and perfect fit for my model. So perfect, it Seems like it would have come from manufacturer. I got the FiberMax hard trifold and it seems to deliver on the promise of being durable and secure enough for valuable items. (Of course any determined thief will always find a away). But this is difficult enough to get into that it should deter most would-be thieves. Loving it so far, and loving that it doesn’t flap around, rattle, or make noise when going highway speeds... like vinyl soft tops I use to have. Mine was $1150, which is expensive, but this is a nice piece of quality engineering and security.. will be worth it if it lasts longer than vinyl covers. ... show more
