Description

The BAKFlip MX4 was the first matte-finished, hard folding cover to market, becoming America’s 1 Selling Hard Folding Cover in just a few years. Simply put, the MX4 just looks better than other covers. Its sleek no-profile appearance allows you to maintain the appearance of your truck, while enabling you to securely stow cargo in the bed. The MX4’s pioneering, textured matte- finish adds a premium look and feel while also protecting against UV damage, annoying finger print marks, and scratches. MX4 has everything you expect from a premium cover. The engineers at BAK Industries fine-tuned even the smallest elements of the cover, down to adding cab corner caps and rail-end cap, to extending a matte-finish throughout the cover’s side rails, clamps, and elevator bolts. The MX4’s integrated buckle system and automatic latching mechanism allows you to drive with the cover partially or fully opened without covering the 3rd brake light. For 100% bed access, simply unlock the cover from either side via its pull latches and fold the cover all the way up against the cab. From there, you can prop the cover in place by tightening two rods into the underside of the panel. For enhanced durability, the MX4 also features pre-molded, shock-absorbent bumpers on either side of the panel, protecting the folded panels from hitting the cover during turbulent driving. I am a year into this purchase and have found that it does let water into the bed of the truck, so if you had a suitcase back there it will drench everything in hard rain. I have stood on the top of it at 200lbs and it has supported me appropriately. Also VERY secure. Nobody is getting into the bed of my truck without opening the tailgate. I wish it had a locking feature on the first bend from the tail gate as I frequently stick 2x4's or long paddles out of the back of the truck, but it locks with securing with one fold flat or full access to the tuck. I would buy this again. (Hopefully I never have to though) ... show more

After looking at various options and brands, I bought the BakFlip MX4 for my 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab 5'7 bed. After researching and visiting local auto parts retailers, I decided to go with this one based on the looks, reviews and ease of use. PROS: Easy Install: easily a one person install with minimal tools required. It comes with paper instructions, but there are multiple videos online that you can watch and follow step by step. I would recommend the videos over the paper, but the paper helps at times too. No need to have a pro do it unless you really don't feel like messing with it and want someone else to blame if it doesn't work properly. It should only take an hour or so at most. Even for the less than handy folks. It is lightweight so it can be installed/removed without needing a second person to help. My previous cover was a 1-piece hard cover and I always had to bug a friend to come help me put it on and take it off. Price: Local retailers were charging over $1,100 for the product and installation. You can find it all over the internet for a lot cheaper and install yourself to save a few hundred bucks. I went with Amazon because I had points and gift cards to use that brought the price down even more significantly. Looks: I like that it is 99% flush with the top of the bed and is a matte-ish black finish. It's a simple, clean design. Seems like it will be very durable too. CONS: Install: My main complaint is that while it is an easy install, I found that some important details were missing, such as exact placement of the top when lining things up. I spent A LOT of extra time trying to figure it out and look for videos or pictures that would help indicate where to line things up. All to no real avail. I think I got it 98% of the way there, but may need to go back and re-adjust slightly. Because close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Weatherproof: It is not 100% waterproof. BakFlip states as much so don't go into this thinking it will be. Having said that, if it is installed correctly water really shouldn't be a big issue. Water should channel to appropriate areas and away from the truck bed, but if there are any gaps, it could get in. Now that we are having our first rain after installing it, I noticed a tiny bit of water in the bed so I will need to figure out where the problem areas lie so I can try to re-adjust it slightly(going back to my install "con") or find additional sealant solves such as weatherstripping tape. Less of a con and more of a reality I suppose. I will be taking it into the snow in a few weeks, so I will be curious how it handles that type of weather too. Security: While it normally requires the tailgate to be open to operate it out of its fully closed position, if a person really wanted to get into it, I don't think it would take a ton of effort to pop it open. So I wouldn't go storing your life savings and grandmothers pearls back there unattended for too long. I would highly recommend verifying you are purchasing from an Authorized BakFlip retailer because if they are not, chances are, the warranty will be voided. ... show more

This is the second hard tonneau cover I have bought from BAK industries. Yes it took me twice to figure out they were not interested in fixing the problem Both suffer from cheap glue. Within a year of ownership the glue holding the decorative vinyl cover onto the hard cover let go. It did it on both the first and second one I bought. I used 3M 08008 adhesive to reglue the edges of the first one. The problem is even with this fix, I can only glue the edge so I drive down the road, look into the rear view mirror and see my hard tonneau cover flapping in the wind. Call me picky but when I spend almost a thousand dollars on one of these things I don't want it waving in the wind like one of the cheap ones. The first was a trifold which works great. Except for the cheap glue problem and looking tacky The second is a roll up and the hard cover began not seating in the track and the glue also let loose. No matter how how hard I push down I can't get the roll up bed cover to seat correctly so it always has a portion that is buckled upward. This company came up with a fairly decent design then cheaped out on material to the point it is not worth the money or effort. Stay away from their products ... show more

We had a tri-fold cover on our truck and I hated that thing. It was professionally installed when we bought the truck in 2016 and it has leaked like the proverbial sieve since day one. The installer said that was normal. I guess it is if you don't know how to install weatherstripping. The Revolver only needed weatherstripping on the cab end and it was provided for trucks with and without a bed liner. Ours has the bed liner. The instructions are pretty clear and it was fairly easy to install. I supervised my husband and brother-in-law while they installed it. They had it done in less than an hour. The only negative was one corner end cap fell off due to a broken tab but that was quickly replaced by the seller. We had minimal leakage in that corner of the bed during heavy rains while waiting for me to install the end cap. Will update if we still have any leaks now that the new end cap is installed. The only adjustment we had to make was to get the rails properly spaced at the tailgate because one side of the latch was catching making it difficult to unlatch.
