It was neat that they came in pull tab cans. Both mint and cilantro germinated more quickly. Basil does take longer. Took about a 12 days to see sprouts in those two. I hope the basil does soon. I used those plastic seran wrap bowl covers with the elastic you can get at the Dollar tree at small sizes, as a humidor little greenhouse affect in a south window in October in WI. I hope once they develop a good root system, to transplant in differnt planters. I didnt see if these were bpa free cans but its a cute idea. Fresh is always best. I learned to like cilantro its bitter but it helps to pull hevy metals from your body that we are overly exposed to in everything. But it was EBT attainable where as herb seeds I have not yet found availible for ebt purchase. But boy junk food surely is. That needs to change. Just because a person is disabled due to cancer which stripped me of 35 years of working to living on a fixed income. To eat healthy and clean to prevent further illness plant seeds should be EBT freindly. It may be, and I just havent found the right sources yet but Amazon at least accepts EBT orders on some things. More Vendors should so thank you for heing one of those vendors. Eliminate the cans of dirt you use and use biodegradable seed starters. Thank you. ... show more

Bought this to do some family time with my girls and this thing is so cool! Nothing is a mess.. the putting soil is already in containers and get this! They open like a soup can! My girls had a blast opening them, kinda had to help the youngest but it wasn't too hard for them. Then we followed the directions which were written out easy to understand which is great because both of my girls are dyslexic and have adhd. They can get frustrated and discouraged easily but this project helped them feel good that they accomplished something and they will get to see their "hard work" pay off which will help them feel good as well. It's been two weeks and so far the mint has not grown. The cilantro sprouted after I planted seeds a second time. The basil sprouted immediately, and the mint I've planted twice and it hasn't sprouted at all, yet. I'll update if it does. I have bought this kit twice. The first time was a fail and I emailed customer service. I went through an inconvenient process of emailing for more seeds. After providing screenshots I received new seeds. The new pack of seeds didn't grow but I thought it was due to my lack of experience. Its been about a year and I have gotten better at gardening so I decided to try this kit again. I am still waiting for the seeds to sprout but as I was watering them I noticed all 3 cans were covered in tiny lil white mites. I am disappointed at this point because now I am worried for the safety of my other plants. I have been sharpening my gardening skills with a water garden system. I wont name the brand but Back to the Roots is such poor quality in comparison. I do like the mushroom kits tho. Ive tried pretty much all their products and the mushrooms are the best. I hope they get their quality up to par because the business concept has great potential. Ive gotten experience but my results have been terrible. 12/28/2022 Update: 2 out of 3 cans have sprouted but they also have mushrooms growing right along with them. The media could not be loaded. It came with directions and was very easy to set up. The basil started growing first, followed by the cilantro a few days later, but the mint has yet to grow. I sent an email to the seller. I'm sure they will address my problem. You can contact them at: contact@backtotheroots.com if you have any trouble. I will update when they respond. Update: Customer service responded right away and sent replacement mint seeds with no questions asked. Hassle free and I'm pleased to say the new seeds did grow! This is a fun project to do with my 3yr old son. He gets so excited watching them grow! And we will save money on herbs. It's a win-win!! ... show more
