FIRST: DO NOT take off the zip tie that holds the gate together until installed!!! They mean it, this is a spring loaded pressure seated gate. If you cut it before installation, it will push open at the top of the gate and you will have to sit on it to re zip it and get it back to squared off position. This is a fabulous gate. I use gates to separate the dogs from the cats (laundry and stairs). I wish I had this when the kids were toddlers. I have spindle banister and for a long time could only find gates that had pressure pads. This has 2 Y shaped brackets (which can be stretched to be wider than original by pushing the inner part of the Y against a very hard counter or metal surface). The Y brackets are used for the rounded part of the banister and then the pressure pads to be used for the squared off bottom. It is relatively easy to install. The add on brackets for extra width are easy to add and there is a support brace to keep it rigid. Most impressive is the gate itself which, once installed, just falls shut hands-free. I can have my hands full and usually it will just swing back and latch. If it stays open, I can nudge it with a hip and it will fall shut and latch without my having to set anything down. The latch is a grip release so you will have to have one hand free to get open. One note, I have a fat cat so I did unscrew (in 2 places) the bracket for the cat door and pried/removed the plastic panel from the cat window. This gave him an extra 2 inches of width (hey, when you are a 20 lb cat and running from a German Shepherd, you want to fit!). My dog cannot fit through the cat opening so I figured best to leave it open. Solid contruction. The grey color blends well. ... show more

    • Impressive design -- FOLLOW THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

This gate is impressive in its design and manufacture. It is easy to fit into an opening, and the door works well. NOTE: It is important to follow the installation instructions. The zip ties that secure the door to the frame prior to installation restrain the pressure that the entire gate puts on the opening that it is being installed into, and they maintain the spacing for the door latch in the frame. DO NOT CUT THESE ZIP TIES UNTIL THE GATE IS INSTALLED IN THE OPENING (as it says in large print). If you cut the zip ties prematurely, the frame will spread apart, and the door will not fit properly inside the frame. This will require you to manually force the sides of the frame together during installation to make the door fit properly. Not the end of the world, but a PIA. ... show more

I do like this gate with the cat door. I can slide the cat door 1/4 closed. This allows me to keep my smaller dog out but let the cats get through. The gate opens and closes easily - one handed, so that's nice. I did use two of the gate extensions. They don't screw into the main body so it was a challenge holding the gate and keeping the extensions and tighten the tensioner simultaneously. TIP: wrap a few rubber band around the posts on the extension. This gives it a bit of "hold" until you can get the gate in place to tighten the tensioner. Or just have another person on hand to hold the gate while you tighten. Overall, I highly recommend the gate. ... show more

I couldn’t be happier with this gate. Easy set up, easy to use, and it seems to be well made. It’s perfect for our needs but is lightweight and wouldn’t stop a medium to large dog if they wanted to come through. My dog likes to raid the cat box so I got this gate to keep her out. It works great! I chose not to install the little cups that the gate fits into because I didn't want to drill holes in the door frame. I found this to not be an issue whatsoever. The pressure pads have a soft coating on them so they don't damage the woodwork and stay firmly in place. Works perfectly to keep visiting "granddog" out of our bedroom, yet allow us and our cat access as desired. Like having width extensions to block off entire BR hallway if needed. When gate is not installed, it does not stay latched, so need a small bungee or zip tie to hold gate closed during storage (only needed when granddog visits overnight; remove between visits). I wish the cat door were opaque instead of clear, so it's obvious to the cat when it's closed, but cat figured out immediately how to go through w/o any training. Installation instructions were a little vague, briefly confusing my engineer husband. Unexpected - the thoughtful inclusion of 2 Y-brackets to allow installation against a stair bannister on one side. Overall very happy with it. Definitely recommend. ... show more
