  • Great shifter! Really tightens up the factory wobble stick
Pattern Name: Shifter Lever Kit
Had to notch the floor a little because I have a Synergy tummy tuck belly skid. Other than that just used a new factory shift stick because the old one was a little dry rotted.

  • 5 month review
Pattern Name: Shifter Lever Kit
I installed the shifter about five months ago. I’m still thinking it was a good purchase. There is a bit of a learning curve to using it at first, but you get used to the added resistance fast. When it’s new, it’s stiff and you have to use a little force, but after a few months, it wears in a bit and gets pretty smooth. It has cleaned up my issues with getting into reverse for sure. I cheated when I installed it and didn’t install the foam donut, so that saved me from not having to drop the gas tank and mess with the trans mounts. I did everything from instead the Jeep. I may get motivated one day and install the donut. We’ll see. Probably not. Once you pull the shift knobs off and the center console out of the jeep, it’s four star screws, maybe a 20 minute job. Value for money? I mean, it’s expensive for sure. Yes, I’m glad I bought it once. Appearance? Looks stock unless you put the stickers on your jeep. ... show more

  • Fixed my JK jumping out of first
Pattern Name: Shifter Lever Kit
My JK was jumping out of first gear. I removed the outer and inner boot and drove like that for a week or so during which time it only jumped out once or twice. It seems like the inner boot pushes against the shifter. The B&M requires more pressure to move out of gear. I've driven with the B&M (with the boots) for a couple months now and I love it. It has not jumped out of first once. I have to pay attention to fully engage reverse but that's a habit now. I could take or leave the short throws. I didn't mind long throws on the stock shifter, it's a Jeep after all, but everything else about the stock shifter is improved by the B&M. I also replaced the shift level with a B&M and got a different shift knob as I found the one that came with the lever to be too small. It was not a cheap upgrade but very well worth the expense in my opinion. I enjoy shifting my Jeep again and that's worth a lot. ... show more

  • Great shifter if it doesn't leak
Pattern Name: Shifter Lever Kit
I've finally figured out how to get this shifter to not leak. This shifter is a great upgrade to shift quality. It takes about 500 miles for the shifter to loosen up a bit and after that the shifting is solid and predictable. No more 4th gear popping out. No more accidentally shifting into reverse when going to 6th. After about 10,000 miles with this shifter I found a leak. I was low about half a quart of fluid. The leak was not easy to find since it was so slow and the foam insulation around the shifter absorbed a lot of the fluid. The foam insulator also made it difficult to find the source of the leak. Ultimately, the leak came from the shifter boot where it seals around the shift shaft. It spits out just a little bit of fluid after each drive. It's not much and it's difficult to find because the fluid came out atomized. I used Permatex "The Right Stuff" 90-minute RTV gasket maker to seal the boot to the shift shaft. It has not leaked since after about 500 miles. I've also tried the following which I believe is good to do anyways. Permatex "The Right Stuff" 90-minute RTV gasket maker instead of the gasket to seal the shifter housing to the transmission. The provided gasket is trash. After 10,000 miles I was surprised to see its condition so deteriorated. Use a screw type band clamp to seal the shift boot to the shifter housing. Make sure your vent isn't plugged. I say this as to not overlook it as a possible culprit, but ultimately that wasn't the issue. That area of the shifter is well insulated from dust and debris. Mine was like brand new after 10,000 miles. B&M did send me a new boot and clamp when I discovered the leak. The clamp they provide, both for the new assembled unit and as a replacement, is trash as far as I'm concerned. Just use a screw type band clamp. Leave finicky compression clamps for CV shafts where the folks who rebuild those regularly have the special tools to clamp them effectively. The original clamp that came with my shifter was not clamped well. I recommend replacing it even on a new shifter unit. I'm still not happy that a $650+ shifter could leak this way with low miles, or at all. The seal design on the boot is poor and doesn't reflect what I expected of a brand like B&M. Of all the upgrades I've done to my Jeep this is the only one that's been this frustrating (Fusion axles, Metalcloak long arm suspension, transfer case swap, engine oil cooler, etc.) Extra: I look forward to when my clutch gives up. I'll likely swap to a Tremec 5-speed while I'm at it and send the NSG370 to the rebuilder for those who are happy with that transmission. All around not a terrible transmission but I'm ready for an upgrade. ... show more

  • Should've Bought This a Long Time Ago
Pattern Name: Shifter Lever Kit
This is probably the single best upgrade you could make to the drivability of a Jeep Wrangler. It makes the vehicle feel so much better to drive. The shifter itself is a lot quieter than the OEM shifter. It's more robust in ever aspect. The thing is heavy, clicky, and very positive. 1st and Reverse were always finicky in my 2010 Jeep JK and this shifter cleaned it right up. I know it costs a lot, but you get what you pay for. People complain that their shifts are slower because the shifts have a lot of resistance. I think you just need to be a man and grow some muscle because my shifts have gotten quicker. The throws are so shorts it feels like I haven't even moved my arm. ... show more

  • Perfect fit. Shifts solid
Pattern Name: Shifter Lever Kit
Put this in my 2008 JKU. I was hoping it would help with my JOG issue but it did not. The box shifts great. Short and crisp shifts - Jeep probably should have used these as OEM equipment. Shifter comes with a gasket to fit between the box and transmission housing. The instructions are clear. However, I did not lower the trans - just pulled the shift rod, upper and lower boot from the top. Had a new foam part anyway, so that didn't come out in 1 piece. Remove four #30 Torx and the old shift box pulls out from the top. Replace with the B&M. A long #30 torx or one with a 1/4" drive would be helpful as its a tight fit. ... show more
