  • Best shifter/brake lever system I have used
Size: talla_única
Campy shifters are definitely the product of a lot of R&D. Best shifter/brake lever system I have used. Ergonomically perfect.

  • Used with SRAM x9 derailuer.
Used with SRAM x9 derailuer -- this combo (a Campy 10 speed shifter;SRAM derailleur/ 9-speed) was definitely a matter of style winning over substance. I read on one of the blogs that this combo (the linear cable length pull per shift)might just work -- so why not try it? My choice was a lower-end Campy or a Microshift (with the Gigantic Nashbar "N & Nashbar" on the lever -- I would have been happy with a plain black and unbranded Microshift -- sorry for the shallowness). Okay how does the combo work in the real world? Subpar -- and I'd suspect many serious mechanics would frown upon me saying I can deal with 10 clicks and 8 complete shifts on a 9 speed bike cassette -- but, overall it works. (If your math is good sometimes I have to click twice to get one complete shift). Trust me when it does shift I find the speed and smoothness rather pleasant (though maybe my mindset is anything is better then nothing). Minus my 11t cog (which I can barely turn on the flats anyway) all 8 gears it does hit, it hits very well with no skips or noise. I really like the ergonomics of the Campy shifter when riding on the upper grips -- my hands simply "melt" in the bars&levers;however on the drops it is "not ideal" to shift to a larger cog. Also the long braking reach is downright dangerous. The good news is that since I use it on a cyclocross bike I ride mostly on the levers -- the leverage and grip feels great riding in this position. I did have to install a Jagwire inline derailleur barrel adjuster since the X9 is without (as is the shifter) In the future I might willing to buy a new Campy rear wheel, cassette, chain and derailleur to make it perfect -- perhaps over time. Sometimes money savings ideas are really just more expensive and this combo, in the long run, will be the case. Maybe if I was more clever I could (as some suggest) "adjust the parallelogram" of the derailleur or preform some magic to make this work even better? It will have to wait until I have more time and money. Also, a well selected 8 speed cassette would be fine by me as well. The shifter get's "points" on this review for relative price, relative performance, the provision of brake and shifter cables and housing and its ergonomics (on the lever grips) for my relatively small hands. It's somewhat unfair of me blame the shifter for my lack of respect when it come to combining products never meant to be paired. ... show more

  • Veloce 10 speed levers
they work perfectly unless the levers get loose, recommend threadlock on mounting allen bolt and you need to use a T-wrench to tighten
