My husband is disabled and is limited in what he can do and of course, what he would interested in doing...which has been a huge problem. For whatever odd reason, this Bonsai Tree Kit showed up a recommend for me and so I thought, what the heck!?!? I gave him the box, wouldn't tell him what was inside. At first he looked a bit annoyed when he opened it and started to set it aside, but then sat it back on his lap. Then he poked around...started to set it aside and then started taking everything out, looking it over, putting it back. Then he got out the instruction guide and now he's making a mess out of my kitchen and I'm perfectly happy with that. Of course, it will take a while for the seeds to grow, but in the meantime I'm sure he will be researching appropriate pots, will probable want to get a grow light, put up a shelf. Upfront disclosure: I received this item through the Amazon Vine program for review. I have gotten Bonsai kits before but none have ever been so nicely packaged. This kit has everything you need to get started growing 5 different types of Bonsai trees including soil, seeds, and tools. Everything is nicely packaged inside the pretty wood box that holds everything! Seriously if you plan on gifting this take it out of the boring cardboard box and gift it in the wood box that is inside. I just can't get over how nice a set this is, especially for the money and it is a perfect gift. ... show more

    • Needs a well-lit area with 6-8 hours of sunlight - temperature sensitive
I wish there was something on the listing explaining the conditions and area these need to grow. I got this and was so excited to grow Bonsai trees! I wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing and would have success but as I read the conditions needed, my hopes vanished. My house has a porch on the front so no windows have direct sunlight, nor is there any well-lit areas. And the back of the house doesn't get sunlight coming into any windows. The sun rises where our garage is and sets where the bedrooms are and even if I was to put them in the windows in the bedrooms, there is definitely not 6-8 hours of sunlight there. NOW, I could put them outside but it's way too cold this time of year. There's nothing in the directions saying what the temperature needs to be so I had to look it up and read that they are cold-sensitive and should not be kept in temperatures less than 45 degrees. They need temperatures of 70-80 to germinate. They like to be kept on a sunny windowsill year-round. In the summer they like to be outside. So that being said, hopefully I can get a small greenhouse. In fact, my husband plans on putting one up so then I can finally try these out! But it looks like I'll have to wait until late Spring/Summer to start these and right now it's Fall. I'll update when I grow these. (Hoping and praying for success!) ... show more
