  • Use real vacuum line. Dump the vinyl one.
While the vinyl tube that comes with the kit is okay long term that stuff will yellow and crack once you install it push it through a firewall it can be a real pain in the ass later. I changed it out for the right diameter vacuum line which I installed yesterday the gauge works flawlessly and matches right up to my manifold line. Good gauge and the lighting on it is excellent. ... show more

  • Works great for my old truck
This gauge has been very helpful in saving fuel and being able to monitor how hard my engine is working when towing. Helps with troubleshooting carburetor issues too.

  • A great gauge; gives very valuable info at a low price.
I've installed Autometer gauges in my cars for the past 15 years and they've never failed. I like knowing what's happening in my cars, ESPECIALLY the older ones. This is an extremely affordable, permanent diagnostic tool and was installed in a 1996 geo metro 1.0L 3 cylinder. The plastic tubing barely reaches from the MAP sensor to the other side of the car, but it was a successful installation with the parts included in the kit (if more tubing is needed then it can be purchased at a home improvement store's plumbing section). I used a 2-inch hole saw and drilled a hole left of the steering wheel (before drilling I made sure there were no wires or steel beams behind the hole). After installation it showed a slightly low vacuum (~16" when idling) and a lightly shaking needle which confirmed a leaking exhaust valve on #3 (a very common issue in metros). I had performed a compression test a few months ago and #3 was the only low-performance cylinder (100psi; normal is 160 to 200psi). The location in the pic is right next to the dimmer switch on a geo metro, so wiring the backlight into the existing lighting was easy. The kit comes with both green and red light-bulb covers, although I believe Autometer stocks other colors (the bezels/covers are removed because a 3-cylinder tachometer cluster is also being installed in the car). ... show more

  • Auto Meter Vacuum Gauge
Nice gauge and fair price. Mine worked well for two years then the supplied clear vacuum tubing supplied shrank a bit causing a poor reading. I’m replacing the clear tubing with a heat resistant black tubing and it should work well again? Many purchasers of this gauge have also replaced the supplied tubing with a heat resistant black tubing. ... show more

  • Monitor your engine
I’ve used vacuum gauges when tuning an engine. On this 1973 restoration I thought it would be handy to have in the under dash cluster. Pretty easy install and happy with performance. Also picked black face gauges with green light to go with instrument cluster.

  • As always, AutoMeter delivers a nice gauge..
Works great, the needle is steady and very responsive to throttle inputs. Amazing how much fuel you can save by accelerating more gently and knowing when to down shift. It is an Autogage, which is made by AutoMeter. Only thing that could be improved is the vacuum hose to run under the hood, and I would improve the included hose in 2 ways: 1.) It should be a stronger hose, this one collapses under vacuum with the heat under the hood. OEM-type black vacuum hose would be stronger. 2.) It could be a smaller diameter going into the cab so you wouldn't have to drill that big of a hole. They make a smaller, semi-hard plastic hose that is about 1/8" in diameter that would work fine for this purpose. You don't need much for size to measure vacuum. Again, the gauge itself is well-constructed, easy to read (love the color-coded scale!), and accurate. Just the hose could be improved. ... show more
