Apple chip have a very mild faint flavor for the most part. Some of the pieces have a stronger apple flavor but most don't. I did try to rehydrate some and they did not taste very good so I just eat them as they are, I like them better that way. It bothers me that they never show what the actual product looks like or how much you're getting. I know what an apple looks like what does YOUR apple look like? So this is a picture of the can right after I opened it. This stuff is good. We eat it for snacks. It's a whole lot more convenient than keeping fresh fruit around for a couple weeks before chucking in the compost pile. We buy this often and use them in cereal, ice cream, trail mix, snacks etc. A can lasts my household about a week or two. Its real easy to eat too much but I'd rather my kids eat eight servings of fruit than junk. ... show more

    • Freeze Dried Apple Slices, undamaged can, decent price.
These are simply freeze-dried slices of apples. Very similar to what you would buy in the snack section of the grocery store. They come in a #10 can, which refers to the size of the can (approximately 1 gallon) and NOT to the amount of food in the can. For that, just refer to the net weight of the product. I haven't opened this particular can yet, but I'm assuming it's like other cans that I've opened in the past. There will be some space that isn't occupied by freeze-dried apple slices, which is to be expected. Most of these freeze-dried food companies will use a single size can for a wide variety of products. Much cheaper for them. They don't have to buy different machines for different sizes of cans, they don't have to have line switch-over time to change can size, etc. So, the result is that not each can will be packed full of whatever product. The cost is mostly in the food itself, so if you wanted everything to be brimming over with the food, the price would be a lot higher. Anyway, the apples taste good and store well. I rotate my cans out of storage and in to use whenever I find them on sale. That way, the storage cans are always fresh. ... show more

I ordered the freeze-dried strawberries and dehydrated apples, neither of which tasted anything like I expected. The strawberries had no sweetness to them at all, tasting mostly bitter with vague strawberry flavor. The apples were sweet, but tasted almost nothing like apples, either.
