  • Just know that it contains milk and look at cals
It astonished me how much better this made me feel than regular snacks. There are times on a hike or even about my day that I have not made it out to lunch yet and my body is telling me I'm hungry. In the past, I may snack on chips or trail mix, and will be hungry again 20 minutes later, but also regret the calories. I have now tried a survival tablet on a few occasions, and it's different. The flavors are nice. I would describe this as regulating your needs rather than satisfying your hunger. It allows me to continue thinking or working or going about without feeling down or anxious. But pay attention to the directions and the calories. It says to take one per hour and the calorie (energy!) count is actually low. So because I feel better than snacking eating these, I will keep these handy. And I'll save snacking for when I actually need the calories. ... show more

  • Emergency Food
Full disclosure- I have not tasted any of these. I let folks select flavors to put into the cars’ emergency kits. These are slated for the go bags. The long shelf life make this reasonable if the calories are as state. The bags are neat and clean and well sealed.

  • Lightweight
These are a lightweight addition to an emergency go bag

  • For emergencies
Got these to put into small emergency bags. Haven’t tried them yet, but I don’t expect it to be a gourmet meal. This pack comes with multiple flavors, but the bags are unmarked so you have no idea which flavor it is until you open it.

  • Useful but Expensive! Look at Nutritional Info Before Buying!
These are great little survival tabs to add to any backpack or home storage, but take the time to study the nutritional information before buying these. The are great for long-term storage over many years (only before opening; they don't have a long shelf life after opening package), and they definitely do not take up too much space when packing. There are better options for emergency food if that's what you are looking for, as these are strictly a survival tab. These tabs are not suitable for keeping up with high calorie or nutritional demands when expending a lot of energy. I would recommend these as a supplemental item to emergency food storage, backpacking food supply, trekking, etc. I feel like they are pretty expensive for what nutritional value you actually get, but they certainly fill the need for an emergency option if you had literally nothing else and needed to survive. I am giving 5 stars because the product is exactly what it is advertised to be, and I bought these after reviewing the nutritional info and knowing full well what I was buying. ... show more

  • A great survival aid
The packages are small enough to make storage easy. A long shelf helps also

  • Great for Get Home/Bug Out/Emergency Bags for the gluten intolerant!
I highly recommend that if you plan on walking all day for days living off these, you need to pack (2) 24-tablet pouches per day. That gives you 6 tabs per hour x 8 hours day walking. That's 960 calories a day which is close to (1) 1200 calorie mainstay bar. Saw one review that said the packaging of the pouches is bulky. I agree. They're about 1/2 full of air or whatever they put in them. However, if you shake the tablets down to the bottom of the pouch you can fold the pouch in half and reduce the size considerably. It's a shame they don't package these in a roll like roll of lifesavers. Pricewise these tablets are more than double the cost of the same calories in Mainstay or Datrex bars, but Survivor Tabs are the only gluten free survival food with such a long shelf life that come in pouches suitable for Get Home/Bug Out Bags. ... show more

  • It's a multivitamin + appetite suppressant cookie, not magic
Like many other reviewers, I tested these in a non-emergency for flavor and effectiveness. Rather than going cold turkey on food, I tried eating more lightly than normal to see how much these could make up for The flavor is decent. To me, they taste a lot like Pop-Tarts -- maybe just slightly worse. But altogether sweet and pleasant. Clearly there is an appetite suppressant effect here, but you can get that with all kinds of other pills. Bioavailable vitamins and minerals are nice, and certainly welcome in a low-food situation. The problem I had was that even though I didn't feel too "hungry" after a few hours of testing, I started having other symptoms of significant hunger, such as weakness, slight dizziness, light headache, and the like. All of this abated soon after eating some real food. I ended up being able to cut a few hundred calories over the course of a day and still feel fine, but it's a hard sell to eat 12 of these and nothing else. Without other food, I'd still be feeling awful after twelve hours. I think a lot of these survival-type products get away with too much because they use the magic word, "emergency". In an emergency, you're not going to be picky, and you don't need perfection. I admit there's value in a food that's lightweight, nutrient-dense, and has a long shelf-life. But if I had these and nothing else, I'd have to eat much more than one per hour. Where I see better value is in non-emergency situations where real food isn't readily available and you'd otherwise resort to snacking. Rather than eat a candy bar, just pop one or two of these and it'll take the edge off. It's a lot cheaper than buying from a vending machine, too. ... show more
