  • Helps me make a perfect cup of coffee
I am a coffee pour over guy and I like my coffee hot. So whether I'm using a carafe like Chemex or directly in to a cup, I need something to keep the cup or carafe warm during the brewing process. I had the welltop Coffee Mug Warmer that did a good job, but it was made of plastic and fell apart after couple of years. I tried other mug warmers but despite the claims of 170 or 197 degree heat, they do not keep the coffee warm enough for me. By the time I finish brew,, the coffee is luke warm. The Artilife is awesome. It is well made gets the job done.. It has heat selections from 1 to 5. All I need less than 1. I heat water in a cup until it reaches about 160 degrees, then I pour out the water and start my pour over brew. I add water that has reached about 205 degrees over the coffee grinds and when I'm done, the coffee is at about 175 to 180 degrees. By the time I add cream and sugar, the coffee temperature drops about 15 or 20 degrees and is hot enough for me. I realize that some people may think that a cup of coffee that is 160 degrees is too hot, but that's how I like it. ... show more

  • Best purchase for POTS
This portable hotplate is a powerhouse! According to a thermometer, it can get up to 900+ degrees Fahrenheit. I can finally cook things again and sit down while doing it! It's a lifesaver for cooking a small meal when you have POTS! I've used it to make crepes with a mini pan, and it worked perfectly! I highly recommend getting it for its portability, power, and the fact that it is so efficient and well built that you could literally stick a finger directly under the running hot plate in between it and the table/counter and not get burned due to the heat dispersion. I bought mine used and it was definitely an amazing and worthwhile purchase. Well worth every single penny. I can't recommend this product enough. ... show more

  • Good Points and Bad
I bought this primarily to bring a 750ml/24oz titanium camping cup to a rolling boil on under 600 watts. The cup's bottom fits the burner almost perfectly, so I had high hopes. But, while this hot plate will bring to the cup to a "light" boil with small bubbles forming on the bottom in a reasonable amount of time, if it's capable of achieving a rolling boil I'm not patient enough to wait for it. At the stage where small bubbles form on the bottom and the pot begins to make a sizzling sound the burner starts shutting off intermittently in order to prevent it from overheating even when turned all the way up. Also, the hot plate's small size makes it a little scary to adjust the temperature or turn it off; the entire silver-colored ring area gets too hot to touch. Therefore, I plugged an inline on-off switch into mine so I can turn it off without getting so close to very hot metal and boiling fluids. The positives are that this hot plate is indeed physically quite small and low-draw, which is why I selected it. There's no false advertising here-- you get exactly what's promised and the manufacturing and materials appear to be of good quality. But beware that small very hot things are a bit more challenging to manipulate than you might expect, and also that this isn't the best appliance possible for bringing water to a rolling boil even in small quantities. ... show more

  • Awesome product
This item works great. I put the dial on the lowest heat number and it was super hot! I use it to keep my chocolate melted when I dip strawberries and cake pops. I highly recommend this product.

  • Smells Like Formaldehyde.
I opened the box and the worst smell ever hit my nose. Immediately I took it outside. The box smelled so bad I had to throw it away. I took the hotplate and plugged it in to the outside of the junk shed {where I store all the stuff I hardly ever use, LOL} Turned it on 6 the highest setting and put a large pan of water on it. The water started to bubble on the bottom of the pan so that part worked fine. I turned this hotplate on for four hours every day for 5 days and the smell never went away enough to bring it in the house. So I threw it in the shed since I threw the box away and will use it if I find a purpose in the junk shed. Other wise it is a waste of money. May work for making candles out in the shed for Christmas gifts...I would NEVER use this hotplate in the house as it has the worst smell ever. ... show more

  • Great as a cup warmer!
While I bought this is a small hot plate for my mocha pot while traveling, I have quickly discovered an additional purpose, even more frequently used. It has ended up on my desk as a coffee cup warmer. It's much better. I think than the normal devices sold as cup warmers. While it will hold a temperature in the 120 to 130° range, the dial is infinitely variable and can keep easily sustain a cup of brew warm in the 160 or 170° range if you choose. I think it makes my coffee much more drinkable and much more. The temperature where I enjoy it. And unexpected surprise! The only very small quibble, is a desktop warmer thermostat audibly clicks an analog relay to start the heat and clicks when it shuts off. Not a lot, but just not like a digital warmer. ... show more
