  • At 14 gallons/day, this is cheap and effective but very slow if you're using it to cycle large (150 gallon+) tanks.
Size: 50-Gallon Four stage
I wanted to write a review on this because I felt mislead by a lot of things after I had it running, and I was very concerned I was flushing money down the toilet. First, the 50 gallon unit does not produce 50 gallons of water/day, as most of the water you put in runs out as waste (1.4 to 3.6 ratio of good to bad water). It produces about 14 gallons per day. 36 gallons go down the drain. As the unit (4 stage RO+DI at 50 gallons) cost me about $60, and the carbon filter is only good for 1500 gallons (in!) meaning that I need to replace it (~$10) every 30 days, and distilled water at Walmart really only costs 88 cents per gallon, I thought I might have made a serious mistake. It turns out though, that even if I only got the initial 1500 gallons processed for $60, it ends up costing me about 16 cents/gallon of good water - that's 66 dollars (6 is for the 1500 gallons of tap water) over the 420 gallons of pure water you get from the 1500 of tap water you put in. At that point having to pay an additional $19 to replace the carbon and sediment filters every 1500 gallons, the cost drops down to about 6 cents/gallon (19+6)/420. ... show more

  • Works great 3 month in...solid choice.
Size: 50-Gallon Four stage
So far my experience has been really good with this RODI filter. I have had it for about 3 months and I probably used it to fill a 5 gallon jug about 20 times, so roughly 100 gal pure water and I am still getting 0 ppm readings and this is with my tap water reading 420 ppm. This is my second RODI on a budget, I was reluctant to buy this one back in 2016 because of the mix of reviews. My first was a POQ-4B-50 from PureWaterDirect club on Amazon and it worked really well at first, but after changing out cartridges and resin it just seem to not last long at all. I think it has helped that I mounted it beneath the sink and added an adapter valve (LFP-467CS) so I can run it under the sink. It wasn't too hard to install. I'm just a customer of these products. I put a plastic container beneath it, but so far there have been no leaks at all. I am using RODI for a reef aquarium, so I no longer have to lug 5 gallon jugs from the vending machine at the store. Hope this helps! ... show more

  • Quality RO/DI for my Aquatic Plants and Tropical Fish
Size: 50-Gallon Four stage
I use this product for a few nano tanks I have setup. If I had more room and more tanks, I would probably get the unit with the larger membrane to support 100GPD, but I opted for the budget friendly 50GPD unit and it suits my needs perfectly (a 30 gallon and a few other 10-15 gallon freshwater setups). At my incoming pressure and temperature indoors, this unit is pretty consistently delivering 5 gallons of 0 TDS water for every 2 hours of operation and the advertised expectation of waste water is almost spot on for me. Besides these things, there's a few considerations you should take if you are looking to buy this product for aquatic life organisms, etc: 1. Expect great support for this product. I had a few specific questions that I emailed aquatic life about, and they responded within 24 hours and in some cases within only a few minutes. 2. Quickly google the words "[insert city name] chloramine" and do some research to see if chloramines are used at your treatment facility. If you're like me, they are used, and at a high concentration, so after 3 stages of filtration (just before getting to DI), you will see some trace amounts of chloramines, potentially chlorine and you might even pick up some ammonia in a standard test kit. You might learn that all of these are connected as part of the treatment process in your municipality. Maybe you don't care. Either way, these items were eliminated from my water production after the DI stage, but it is my understanding your membrane will take a toll from processing these additional impurities, therefore it was recommended by Aquatic Life to add the KDF85 (available here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EPV465U/) between the sediment and carbon cartridge. 3. If you connect everything properly, make clean cuts on the tubing and be sure that you feel the tubing insert once, then a second time after a firm push, you know you have a solid leak-free connection. I've used the product a couple months now and even after getting beaten around a couple times, my unit is leak free and silent. Aquatic Life has a good YouTube demonstration of this that will get you up and running in about 15 minutes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avZE7eZRwrM) 4. Be sure you understand that you will need to take steps to remineralize and buffer the water produced by this unit if using for aquatic life. This is standard with any RO/DI setup. However, if you are simply using this to produce drinking water, this can be achieved by eliminating the DI stage of the process which with the quick flex tubing connects this thing uses is really easy to customize to your liking. ... show more

  • watch a youtube video and you won't make this mistake)
Size: 50-Gallon Three stage
I have had far more expensive setups which performed very well. After moving a few years ago, I was looking for a new filter for my planted/shrimp aquarium. The setup for this went very smooth (other than I put the cartridge in upside down...watch a youtube video and you won't make this mistake). The setup takes very little space. Mine is installed behind my washing machine. I installed a valve (blue knob on second picture) on the incoming water line to easily turn my flow on and off. After 2-3 months, I've never had any leaks. I've had plenty of leaks from previous setups...so this was a pleasant surprise. I also used a right angle coupler at the faucet to decrease the pressure on the water line where it inserts. My experience in the past is that leaks occur when the water line is not straight where it inserts to a push-fit connection. The water output is excellent. I use the RO setup without the DI. My tds goes from 180 to 4. I have made ~300 gallons up to this point without any decrease in output quality. ... show more
